boyo 1,398
always left them alone after feb no matter what the quarry because at the end of the day your only killing next years sport and nothing more distastfull than leaving a youngster to starve to death because you have just killed the mother ive always done this even in my younger days but do admit that if i have a young lurcher that needs a catch or two will tend to go on a bit longer or start a bit earlier than i normally would but once any of my runners know the game would not go out hunting out of season my concience wouldnt let me . but some obviously do and always have done and thats up to them and their concience or lack of it. i wouldnt run them down for doing it because its their choice . Ideation 8,216
Just the way i was brought up - Hunt Winter, Fish Summer. Always been that way and always will. However . . . . when summer/winter start/finish seems to be changing so gonna have to think about months. Remember the old 'every month with an R' - def wouldn't ferret in April now (apart from pest control). atb Jai. Quote Link to post

bendrover 556
Stop end of FEB. Unless bringing on a young dog or doing pest control i personally think working rabbits etc out of season is not sport, why would anyone want to kill a pregnant doe....i know this can happen in season...but why seek to do it out of season....you should respect your quarry. Plus looking forward to the start of the season is lovely. Quote Link to post
jamie2004live 163
Its been a good thread i hope it makes sense to sme youngsters and some not so young stroller what did you hunt preban, deer not legitame quarry for dogs i think this question has been killed to death on thl over and over again. and the same stupid comments always prevail young hunters, trainers, hoodies, tracksuits change the record everyone who works there dogs on this site has caught in the summer!!! pest control has to be done all year round otherwise permission is lost other people will be only to willing to do it. certain quarry should be left to breed if you can help it. seriously are you and youre dogs going to be laid up for 6 months of the year, i dont think so anyone coming over all self rightchus is kidding themselves and talking complete shit Quote Link to post
Guest 2GOOD
if i need meat ,i will go and get it never mind what time of year it is ,but i will do my best to make sure it is not a femail of the species if it is late in the season . Quote Link to post
stroller 341
In response to Jamie... Pre ban i hunted rabbits and fox regularly with the dogs and if a hare got up i sometimes took them i shoot rabbits/fox/hares/pigeon/partridge/woodcock/snipe/crow/magpie and pheasant, and my gundogs also come beating on the moors for grouse. I never hunted deer even the little muntjac with dogs as i said its my choice i think its cruel and as i said thats my opinion. As i also said i only take rabbits close season for pest control reasons. as i also said in my opening comments In the summer i enoy getting out with the dogs walking, gundog trials lurcher shows country fairs and the lurcher pup i have at the moment will be working up on the grouse moors this year and that starts in August i also do a lot of training of the dogs during the summer and i will probably be out lamping with the saluki and the pup on one particularly watership down like bit of permission. you do it your way i will do it mine, i also asked that people try not to be abusive but it didnt last, im not self righteous to be so would mean i was forcing my opinion on others and that i would never do. just goes to show. im the nicest man i know but there are still some peple who dont like me! im gutted Quote Link to post
