FAC application cheque cashed

I applied for my FAC and S/G certificate about a week ago. I noticed that the cheque has been cashed. Is this to be taken as a good sign or do they just cash them anyway?

They cash them anyway... they're refunded if the application is unsuccessful

This one will run and run and . . .. As Colster says, cashing the cheque means nothing. They are just using your money to prop up their budget. Sorry to say it, but it means boogie all about your chance of getting your certificate.

Yep, my last variation was granted without cashing the cheque, I know this, because I picked up the gun, before they rung me to say the cheque had bounced, and would I be good enough to drop some cash off

Oh well, fingers crossed then. I have never been convicted of an offence (apart form SP30 speeding 7 years ago) or arrested so I should be ok.

There is a point here that a lot of people miss. A speeding ticket way back when has no effect on your suitability to get your certificate. But lying about having a speeding conviction will screw you up all over the landscape. They can and do trace you back all the way, and when they ask about convictions DON'T try to hide anything. It's the attempt to hide them that pees off the fuzz. Even if it was just a caution for having a piss in a public place tell 'em!

Very true! I went to my insurance company to get all my SP30's that had long disappeared off my licence so I didn't fall foul of this. It's all about being honest. For SGC, there are specific ways you can fall foul of the law which will prevent you from being blessed with one (3 years inside for example) but SGC is a lot less stringent.

 

Having said that, if you've no history of criminal problems, no psycological problems and you've got your land and cabinet all sorted, an application for rimfire/FAC Air will be no problem. For the big stuff, they'll pay more attention to your previous shooting experience.

I ticked the 'No' to convictions box but wrote a note in the details box to say I had an SP30 in 2003. I didn't think was was a conviction as such but thought I should mention it. I hope I did this right. I am actually applying for rifles and black powder pistols for target shooting so there is some larger stuff. .357 / .38 / .38 SP for gallery rifle. But I might have a shoot coming up on a golf course so I want to speak to the FEO about what I would need to do to be able to use .22LR for that.

 

I have been a club memeber for a year and will get a good reference from the club secretary if they contact him.

Surely they dont have to be notified about a caution as the form only asks for convictions , so if you do not mention one you cannot be accused of hiding anything as they dont ask for it.

I believe that legally a caution is classed as a conviction because you have accepted responsibility. I might be wrong...

Yep cautions definately must be told as my mate tried to hide his cautions and they already knew so they denied him his license on the grunds of not confessing up to them .saw the letter myself so its 100% true

The easy option is to write in the box PLEASE CHECK POLICE RECORDS that way you are not lying and it is up to the police to check.

That is what i put,and when my fo popped round he had a list of my speeding tickets etc.Doing this saves you forgetting about anything that happened years ago,and you may have forgotten about.
