basinator 0
hi all wanting peoples opinion of how much you think is wise to spend on a scope suitable for use on a 223 and 243 for foxing and deer stalking, i am well aware that to spend well on a scope is a good idea and i could go mad on the money side of things, but how much is reasonable in serling, thanks for your feed back guys. mattydski 560
As a minimum you NEED Japanese Optics, It would be nice to have American Optics and European Optics if you can afford it. The rest is down to personal choice. I have been trying, buying and selling various scopes for 20 years....You must spend as much as you can afford! Quote Link to post

walshy0988 28
S+B 8x56 scopes would do the job fine and there not badly priced but the more you spend the better you get as with everything you buy! Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
quality mounts and galss is essential, if you cannot afford the new route go for second hand quailty, buy once cry once.... its glass you'll have for the rest of your days rather than trading up and loosing money all the time... it pays to see what others are using who you will be shooting with or shooting with.... for a foxing and deer setup i use a vari power scope.... 6.5x20 some like a fixed mag.... but its not much cop if you want to stretch for a long range shot... again personal opinion.. good luck.. mattywhit 1
as much as you can afford definately usually more than the gun i got told i set my self a budget of 700 for .223 and scope ended up paying £1300 for gun and £1400 for scope alot of money i know but it does show i would never look at out cheap now if you can compare a cheap scope and a quality scope side by side the image clarity difference is awsome i have a nightforce 5.5-15x56 over specked for gun but hell its awesome Quote Link to post
njc110381 0
I'd say £250 would get you the very least you need for a large centrefire. A second hand better make would be my choice if money is tight. If you've got plenty to spare than I'd say £450 would be a good starting point but no need to go over £1k. I've used a lot of cheap scopes and they're hopeless. I now have a Docter on my .22lr which many would consider too good but I can shoot virtually in the dark without a lamp. I'm selling a Bushnell elite 3200 5-15x50 for £250 if you're interested? RRP is over £500 and it would work a treat for what you want it for. On a gun like that I certainly wouldn't go any cheaper! PM me if you want more details. Quote Link to post
