ratattack 111
does the plate catch on the metal at the front of the trap? A bit of tweaking with pliers will sort that out, or file the trigger a bit to make it slip easier. Quote Link to post
Matt 160
Firstly, are they real Fenns or chinky rubbish? If they are copies, you will have a job to get any real performance out of them and they will fall apart in no time. If in doubt, post a picture and I'm sure we will be able to tell. OK, presuming they are the 'real deal', there are two things to do to them. You can raise the trigger plate by shortening the trigger a little bit at a time, (some people just bend the plate upwards). That makes the plate sit a little higher; and the trap is then less likely to be jumped over. The other thing to try is a little graphite pencil in the notch of the trigger. That will help the trap fire better. Both of those things will make little or no difference to a cheap copy, and you should also be aware that it is an offence to set an unapproved trap in the UK. 'Fenn Trap' is an actual make of trap and not a type as some less scrupulous sellers will claim. The only similar traps which are approved are Springer and Solway traps. All three have the makers name stamped on them. Don't forget that Fenns need a tunnel with a roof that is low enough for the trap to fire against. The action of this type of trap throws the quarry upwards, and unless there is a roof to the tunnel then it will throw the quarry free, or cause a foul catch. It's also a legal requirement to make sure the fenn has a tunnel that restricts access to the target species. 1 Quote Link to post

Rest a piece of 1/4" bar ( srewdriver shank etc) on top of the safety. Bring the brass tongue over the bar press down on the end of the tongue with your thumb. This will put a slight curve in it. This will now make your fenn trap set "light". Master Hunter 1 Quote Link to post
dogs-n-natives 1,182
Ive never had an issue setting a fenn/springer trap sensitively? But i do sometimes bend the plate upwards if needed. Quote Link to post
