i`ve had different breeds over the years but all i keep now are light sussex, good layers, look nice, good mothers, can be fattened if need be, very hardy, great foragers, and did i mention they look lovely :whistling:

My sentiments Exactly.I keep the Large Fowl and The Bantams.I also Bred some Rhode Island x Light Sussex Last year and got Some Beautiful Pullets :clapper::clapper:.Hoping to Breed some More this Season.

I've got bantams and my Welsummer is such a great forager and wile too. A couple of years ago I had several visits from a neighbours terrier which resulted in the loss of all but the Welsummer. Even though he came back a couple of times she always managed to stay hidden. Also, as a result, she spent one winter and spring on her tod until I could get some replacements and during all that time she was such a great forager that I hardly needed to spend anything on layers' pellets. Her yolks are often just that touch more orangey than the others; must be all the woodlice and spiders she eats. :toast:

black rocks and copper marans are god layers but look like crows i like the isa browns friendly and if free range you can call them in on a night with a slice of bread. We have to chase them out of the house the buggers are in the dog beds and on the work tops
