While you are waiting for the pup to mature, read this mate and try it, it works and helps young dogs.

It's not, to old to start him at that age he ll be more mature and level headed, as far as learning to turn goes, the best way to let dog develop at that age is play..if you have another dog or a mates dog let them play, they learn so much about themselves through chasing and catching as pups , you can walk the dog for hours but he ll learn and gain so much more in 5 mins of play,,you ll be bang on for next season

Have two pups only 4 months half months old be 12 months start off season but wont be showing them the lamp till them know what there chasing in the day.

I let the pup chase with the mother off the pups so they know how jump fence hit gates and ditches at speed then at the end off next season start learning them the lamp.

Go back to basics with the bitch, rabbit skin dummy, when she is retrieving ok, start the lamping retrieving, how is she bred, some breeds dont bother about other dogs retrieving their catch, some do, split them up for training purposes, until both are doing it competently. good luck.WR

she is a saluki whippet greyhound with a 1/8bull it was a shame as she brought them right to me before hand. i have tried to get her retrieving in the garden but she shows no interest and just puts her tail under her legs and looks scared and goes to the shed door she is a funny nervous dog sometimes

Persevere mate I'M sure it will come back, build her confidence up, get her playing, make it fun and then coax her into it.If needs be try treats.

i will keep on trying her but as i say she is hard work and very stubborn a great little dog but trying to get her to do something she dont want to do is like trying to get blood out of a stone.she will retrieve within reason mind, just would be better if she came right to hand.im just off out with the pup for a bit of obbediance training jump and retrieve try and tire him out by learning him to listen
