silencer modifications

being one of the people that cant leave things alone :). i thought i would see what was inside my standard air arms silencer. i was sick of people with Weihrauch saying that it was to loud:mad:,, cant argue because it was compaired to theirs. but been a bit short of funds had a poke around the net to see what was inside a Weihrauch an what do yah know there aint much more in the Weihrauch compaired to the standard air arms. so a trip to one of those wonderfull pound shop type places for some hair rollers an some scouring pads.an a rake about in a box of washers that have been in the shed for ever. i came up with the bits to make the internals that are in a Weihrauch silencer but to fit in the tube from my air arms. i thought about it clipping the bits i was putting in but hey if it works it works. if not go back to the other bits an tell them to get stuffed so to speak. an get a Weihrauch silencer for the S400.well would you belive it it works was well happy. it dont clip the washers when you fire it. i got a mate to shoot it while i stood 35 yards in front of the gun an way to the left(not advised but i trust the guy) with the air arms bits you could hear the crack from the muzzle. but jeeze when i swapped the internals over there was no crack from the muzzle just a phffffuttt an the the pellet wizzing past. all in all i reckon it was the best £3:50 i have spent this week end

Hi Neil,

Great post pal.

I would be very interested if you could please do some video footage of the difference between the old and new customised silencers in regards to noise etc.

Oy tw@t noticed you didn't ask me to fire it for yah while you stood downrange :tongue2: dont yah trust me :icon_eek:

No, neither would I really (it would be just yay toooo tempting)

Obviously as you aint got a hole in your forehead, it wasn't Rodders either :whistling:

Si,

Its a bit awkward trying to get the difference in sound across on video

Have a look on you tube for silencer reviews there's a guy there who tried to do it. I didn't notice any difference in his comparisons

Interesting post, as I fired my AA S400 today after using my HW100 for a couple of days. I fired it immediately after checking zero on the HW100 and the difference in noise was amazing.

I definitely would like to quieten the S400 down a bit, but don't want to spend £50. This could be worth investigating.

if you want i will measure the the size of all three bits i put in my air arms tube. then you can just cut them to size. the washers i used had a 8mm hole in but going to a fixings stockist in the week to see if i can get some with a 6mm hole in an see if that makes any differance you never know i only shoot .177 so will have a bit of clearance

Hi RiffRaff,

Your post got me thinking today about my SAK silencer that i use on my R10.

I took in apart to find only 1 piece inside it, so thought that i would try abit of your idea to see if i can improve on it any.

I used some kitchen cleaner and cut it to size, then rapped it in celetape to hold it firmly in place before putting the outer cover back on.

When i fired it WOW the difference was amazing pal, so its staying on from now on.

Cheers Budddy for the idea

glad it helped just goes to show the that the simplest things can make a huge differance :D :D,, the other thing im thinking of trying. the ally mesh that you get for using with car filler wrapped round the the springs in the old AA bits an see what it does,, homebrew developement in full swing now got 4 mates with AA silencers that need doing now such is life,, now were did i put my hair curlers :whistling: :whistling:

who knows whats inside a hw mod id look but not sure how to take apart

7mm allen key from the front end will open it,, then just tap the parts out. but if you look at the photo of new bits in my post. you will see the bits concerned. only differance between the bits i put in and the HW mod is HW use some kind of thick felt type stuff an i couldnt find aything similar in the house

All i can think of is that the muzzle blast sound that gets sent into the silencer sort of gets lost in the fibres of the kitchen cleaning pad and dulls the sound that comes out the end.

I would go as far to say that my SAK now is half better than it was before the green stuff.

HW have very small holes In the washers too so the pellet can only just get through. TBH, I think most of the top silencers are based on that design. I know the logun QGS Is allthough the baffles are more substantual being made of ali. My Twink silencer Is the smae design and again has metal baffles rather than the cheap hair curlers that can break.
