paulk73 151
yesterday i went up to the allotments to check the cage traps. had 2 small greys in 1, after despatching and rebaiting we had a walk around. i have seen a few rats running along the hedge bottom and down a hole under a turkey shed, yesterday was no exeption, but they were always 1 step ahead of us. we saw a few but couldnt get on terms with any of them. went back this morning to check the traps, but before i did this i blocked the hole under the turkey shed. we checked the traps and had a wander around. on our way back i saw a biggie sat at the corner of the turkey shed looking directly at me and eli. it turned tail and ran towards the blocked hole. i set off after it(eli haddnt seen th rat at this stage) followed by eli. as i rounded the corner i saw it trying to get in to the hole, but got no joy.so it sought the safty of a sheet of corrogated tin. eli had by now picked up the scent and was going mad. i flicked up the sheet and the rat bolted through the fence, eli saw it this time and was straigjht after it, but choosing to go over the fence instead of through it.. the rat was heading for the sanctuary of another shed about 20/25 mtrs away but eli wanted this rat. he was going full tilt when he struck at the rat. he picked it up and they both smashed into the shed. this was hes first full grown rat in open play. he brought it back and dropped it at my feet when told.he never shook the rat just chomped it and took 2 bites for his troubles. was well proud of him. makes a change from the little greys.
