shushi 2
hi all ive just got a quick qestion for a year now ive had some good permission for ducks with an air rifle but as the place had alot of dog walkers i had to go about it discreetley ie.shooting at night.ive just got some new permission for duck and geese but the duck here seem to roos in trees ? on the old permission the just stayed on the pond ? so were do duck normally roost ? in trees or on water just read all `do ducks roost in trees`. as youngsters we used to get mallard in the day up in old coppiced willow , the wiilow must of been there years as the trunks were very big on the round side with a few new branches sticking out the top . there was maybe 30 or so willows winding along a stream which edged a boggy meadow .some mallard even nested in the top of the trunks , after collecting a few eggs we would follow the stream which ran into a railway cutting , this water cutting was full of moorhens ,we would tie walking sticks together with a spoon tied at the end to reach the moorhens nests { 12 egg omlettes }.everyone had gallies { catapults } and we would normally come home with mallard or moorhens..... did odd mallard roost up there in them trees ? can`t say but a few did nest there .
