SeanTheHawker 0
been out a 2 times on the lamp since i last posted some pics, but im afraid he hasnt caught any, tho he must have got kicked of at least half a dozen, very hard for him to get a head hold. anyway........ Rolf weighed in at 1lb 6.1oz so headed out to the hunting grounds. the forecast said there would be thick clouds cover over, but they didnt come, and it was a full moon, so i could see the silohette of teh hedges 2 or 3 fields away :S. to make things worse there was very little wind. took rolf out of the can and headed into the first field, seen one rabbit hugging a hedgerow about 150 yards away, so headed down and flight the lamp on again, rolf didnt have a chance at it, only ran 5 yards and into the hedge. continued to look through that field and didnt see another rabbit! just didnt think tonight was the best of nights lol. clibm over the fench into the second feild and seen a rabbit again, about 150 yards away, walked a little closer, and flicked the lamp on, but he was gone. contined up the field and had 2 good flights at a few, but again teh rabbits were still hugging the hedge. as i got up towards the top of teh field, i noticed a rabbit sitting a good 100 yards from the nearest cover, only one problem, it had about 50 sheep for bodygaurds. headed up anyway, as i had to make my way into the next field, the sheep moved away, and i flicked the lamp on, just to see if that rabbit was still there, he had moved a little, but still a good distance from cover, and no sheep around him. walked up near him to within about 30,40 yards and flicked the beam on, he was still there, he started to move and rolf took off after him, slight uphill flight, with a little bit into the wind, but rolf caught him well before he got to cover, good flight, but not as good as some ive hadover teh last fornight. rolf got a little tumble from the rbabit but managed to hold it, when i got there he had one footto the head and one to the leg, and had the rabbit curled up and under control. rabbit number 3 on the lamp and i think thats now teh 26th of the season for him. let him had a full feed up and headed back to the car. considering the full moon and light pollution from the town nearby, i think we done alright A few pics from last night, one of which shows how well the refl;ective stickers show up on the lamp:D great when hes in the tree Quote Link to post
jamesy 0
ive fanced taking up lamping with my mhh, do you just lamp big open fields, isnt it a bit risky with trees and fences, what about returning to the fist, do you just shine the lamp on your fist and recall your bird, any info would be great,, Quote Link to post
SeanTheHawker 0
the fields i hunt arent very big, usually about the size of a football pitch each. just dont lamp near trees and the rabbitswhere i hutn will run into a hedgrow rather than through wire, usually they will run around without leaving the field for a bit on the lamp. for recall i just shine to lamp on my fist with a titbitand he comes, but it can be scary and your usually coming him downwind and he can easily overshoot on a bad night lol Quote Link to post
