.22lr ans .17HMR on first FAC?

Morning,

 

I am now applying for my first FAC, and am wondering if its acceptable to apply for both .22 and .17HMR? I believe i have reason for both as the land i have rights on is approx 750m x 1000m. I want to use the .22 for close rabbit/vermin, and the .17HMR for longer range rabbit, and fox. I will talk to my FEO tomorrow re using .17HMR for fox, but I believe in Leicestershire this is accepted.

If you have reason for both, yes.

The land looks ok from the pictures, but the only true judge of safety is you on the ground.

There are good few houses, and the path which will affect their decision if you have to have land enquiry.

Is the land passed for any calibres already. If it is passed, and you have the need you stand a good chance.

 

Remember .22lr carries a ricochet risk, greater than .17hmr.

 

17hmr is louder and more expensive to run than a .22lr.

Thanks for your help, No the land hasent been passed, and i understand the complications the houses and path may cause. I know it probably makes no difference, but the shooting is mainly to the north end anyways due to the denser hedgerows and woods.

On you application, put in for 4 rifles..they will question possibly 2 of them.

22l/r- 17hmr- 22H -223, they will pass the land 1st, to 223, if they say it will take that or lower 22hornet you get 3 slots, they knock off 1 , & keeps them sweet & every one is happy.

cost, nothing extra to you.

im assuming if you get granted 3, you dont have to go and buy 3? i only have a 3 gun cabinet at the moment, and 2 spaces are taken by SGs

your have to get a bigger cabinet then. he wont grant you them inless you have the right size cabinet to keep them all in

Re the cabinet, i have a 3 gun cabinet, but will fit 4 guns easily. Does this count?

Yes, that's fine, most cabinets will accept more guns with some careful stacking. Regarding Clint's suggestion you would need then to provide reason for the centrefire's too. Fox is often a good reason as a lot of forces won't clear HMR for fox but sounds like you're already using the fox to justify the HMR but no you don't need to buy the rifle's just because you have slots for them. However, come renewal time if you haven't filled your slots, your FEO is likely to try and take them back but you have 5 years before you need worry about that.

clint is spot on mate, plus this will cover you for the future if you do as most people do and start with the rimmy's (as everyone should) but then decide you want a bigger calibre, as for fox with the hmr it was on my ticket for fox but when i sent it away for a variation it came back without it (greater manchester) so i asked if i'd be breaking the law using it his reply was "that would be for the courts to decide" FECKIN CRAZZZY LAWS

I wouldn't do that. Just apply for the calibers you need : .17HMR and .22LR and you will have no problems.

i wouldnt bother with the fac air inless you really think your use it. 22lr and hmr is fine.

It shouldn't be the case, but a lot depends on your FEO. There are guys on here who have .22CF on their ticket. That covers owt from .22 Hornet to .220 Swift. I'd say apply for .22lr, HMR, and shove .22CF on top. You never know your luck! And no you don't have to have all the cabinets &tc. On your first ticket you can put all the calibres you think you might need in the future. If you haven't taken them up when you renew you'll lose them, but it should be perfectly acceptable to tell your FEO that you want to be able to decide as you get more land. Whatever,
