the advise u have been given is exactly what you need too do!! use the dummy to teach the retrive and as for getting the strike ferreting is a perfect way too go i net sum harder holes and place the dog by the open holes this really teaches the dog to be on the ball and gets them striking!! i dont use nets at all now on my sets my dog rarly misses he has learned the sounds and is allways in the right place at the right time!! i only use ferreting as a way of keeping my dog sharp :gunsmilie: !! good luck fella!!

just for a bit of help regarding the rabbit skin dummy, this is what i done,

skin the rabbit, (eat the meat or give to the dog)

nail flat to a bord an scrape with a knife to get excess meat/fat ect off

cover in salt (dont know why i just remember reading it somwhere)

place in shed or other dry place for a few days, adding more salt if needed

wash the skin, if you do not have a proper canvas dummy, i used a coke bottle half filled with water to add weight

sew or tie the skin round the dummy/bottle

also you can add abit of reflective material (like off a hi vis jacket) this will help the dog see the dummy when you shine the lamp on

you may be able to buy one also
