Guest bluemink
nice looking animal but if you wanted a grey to work was it wise to go for one with a history of foot problems? Quote Link to post
huntingalltheway 2
I haven't worked a pure grey before, but he won't be till at least next season. He won't be worked hard anyway as that's what my lurchers are for, i will take him out now and agin, but i have heard they are injury prone because they are just all speed and toe injurys, but we will see! ye that's what Ive heard too, but you hear of the odd one that makes the grade, i think the lurchers will do best as all rounders, ive owned some greyhounds in my time and found there more off work resting from injurys than working but we all know greyhounds are definatley injury prone they sprain there wrists break there toes and hocks and even shoulders and at worst knacker there backs and this all happens when there racing only on sand so imagin the injurys in field use. You need very big pockets to own a field greyhound to cover the endless vet bills. Also a greyhound is designed to run in striaght lines so when running rabbits it add even more pressure on there bodys. So slow progression is needed to try and help them adapt Quote Link to post
collie/grey 238
Thanks for the replies everyone. Come on lads, he never used his 'veg' lol so he doesn't miss them! Regards to who asked whether it was wise to get a greyhound for work with previous foot injurys, i didn't intend on getting him for work at all, he needed a home so i gave him one and if he will work now and again then that's a bonus.I think he's about 2-3 years old.
