Dakaras 3
Been trying for a pair of maggies this week.....Crept to within 35m, just raised the gun not a sound I swear and off they bob to 60ms....Till today when I had no gun then could walk within 25 m before they even blinked Quote Link to post
Lee85 44
they are hard to shoot, theres a field on our permission where an old track runs down the middle, lioned with trees, they have about 5 in the opposite trees on lookout, 5 in the field grazing thena few more dotted around on watch, great when you get one though, world war 3 kicks off they don't like it when you drop one, they begin circuling and the lot Quote Link to post
zini 1,939
That’s funny lee but I have to agree with you buddy, it’s true what you say. I’m sure that they have a corvid training Regiment where they learn to work as a small unit of soldier corvids, some on watch while some eat etc. Some of the best static hunting that I have ever done is when I’m all camo-ed up, face and hands as well and sat under a roosting tree at dusk waiting for them to land. Shoot 1 and they start a corvid mass argument screaming at their fallen comrade on the floor wondering what’s going on. I’ve managed to shoot 10 corvids straight after each other with my old Air arms s310 before they thought that the tree wasn’t the safest place to roost in. LOL. Si Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
I like to watch them working together, especialy magpies, very clever birds Quote Link to post
silentshot1 206
Incredibly smart birds, apart from the Carrion Crow on Sunday that took such umbrage to my crow decoy at the back of a pigeon pattern, it landed 10 meters away from me, screaming, then abruptly stopped when it met an FX pellet! Amazed it didn't see me raise the gun, chamber the pellet and let it fly, as I was sitting at the bottom of a tree but with little cover between it and I! I'm going to try using a cheap brown toy rabbit cut open, some sausages, a couple of crow decoys and some tomato ketchup, with a little bit of Blue Peter magic next, to see if I can get corvids to flock to it. I'll let you all know how it goes! Quote Link to post
zini 1,939
LOL silent. Why dont you just use a split rabbit? It a lot less effort pal. Si Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
Hey Si, I split that big bugger a couple of weeks ago for them. Its still there now (had a walk this aft) Not a sign of it being pecked by the corvids I'm suprised Mr Charlie aint snaffled it unless he got splatted on the A63 Phantom Quote Link to post
festa 206
must be your cooking tony i bet if you put the bunny on some tarmac they'd be at it straight away atb gary Quote Link to post
zini 1,939
LOL Gary , Tony i was up on my permission in the Summer just gone. There is this structure that the soldiers have built there to signify a Forward Operating Base out in Afghanistan. I was hiding in this structure static shooting bunnies. After i shot 2 I didnt want to carry them around my permission as i was having a good stalk about after squizzers. I sat them at the side of the road knowing that i was only going to be a hour tops before i came back to pick them up. After about 45 mins i returned to pick up my bunnies to find them both in the middle of the road with no eyes and deep holes in their sides North Yorkshire corvids are bas**rds and rob like mad .
