Bren 0
Hi I'm looking for a cheap scope for my CZ American HMR and am considering the JSR Guntuff 8-32x50. Has anyone tried this scope or can you recommend an alternative? Quote Link to post
Lez325 2
as a cheap scope for the 17 HMR why not have a look at BSA's sweet 17- target turrents designed to compensate for drop in 17 HMR trajectory at given ranges- just a thought and these scopes are cheap Les Edited February 4, 2010 by Lez325 Quote Link to post

waidmann 105
not a bad bit of advice. take a look at the used sights on here( or other sites) before buying something which will only cause you strife.# good luck Quote Link to post
RicW 67
A further point here. Why do you want a 32 mag scope with HMR? Better to get a single mag scope that will reach as far as you need, and not waste money on glass you will never use. Go for a good 2nd hand 8 x 56. Ric Quote Link to post
Bren 0
Thanks for the advice gents. I'm new to HMR and have 'stepped' out the ranges this calibre can be used over. I was considering a hi mag scope as at 150yds plus a rabbit looks fairly small even at 9x magnification on my 3-9 x50. Will 8x mag be enough? What is the optimun magnification for HMR? No such thing, but the highest magnification I have on anything is 26x, and I struggle to remember the last time I cranked anything up further than about 16x for any reason! It gets very personal with scopes and everyone will have their preferences, I rarely shoot above 6x or 8x MAX out in the field, even to 200+ yards, but I still find the opportunity of higher mag useful for scanning around!! quicksilver 0
I would go with a variable mag scope for your hmr , most of the 8x56 scopes are great for stalking but you will find the reticle is on the heavy side for the quarry the hmr will be used for . 3-12x 50 would be more than suitable for the hmr. One option is to buy a good 2nd hand scope rather than a budget new scope. Quote Link to post
Bren 0
Ok I've decided I still want a variable mag scope but not as powerful as I initially wanted. I've been on the Simmons website and the whiteail appears to have been phased out. I'm considering the following- Simmons Pro Sport 4-12x50 or 6-18x50. Bushnell Banner 6-18x50. I can get either for about £120 new. Any recommendations? Quote Link to post
