Airgun/lamp advice

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I have just bought a cheap edgar'bros 22 springer. Havent shot with airpower for years but always used to favour precharged guns. Had a few shots with this gun and seems reasonably accurate for the price i paid and surprisingly i enjoyed shooting this with open sights [sort of took me back a bit] . I wont be asking much more of it than shooting pigeons in a barn [occasionally] and the odd rat. I have a 6V tracer atom lamp and was wondering if anyone has ever mounted one of these on a springer?? does the recoil affect the lamp??

Also i will need a spare bulb for the lamp and cant seem to find one on the www anywhere.

All info is good info

Hi, mate.

The recoil shouldn't affect your lamp but if you mount it to a springer, it will change where your shots hit.

I always used a good head torch when lamping with springers, as you don't need to worry about re-zeroing as you do with a gun mounted lamp.

I don't know how you'd get on with useing open sights with a head torch though. I could see that may cause problems seeing the sights properly...

Cheers.

Cheers for the reply guys- a headtorch sounds good , light over the sights is really no problem. but preferably id like to mount the lamp on the gun- my bulb is bust and at the mo it doesnt look like ill get another

The recoil of a springer doesnt affect the tracer mate.

I used one for years on my BSA Lightning without a problem at all.

Spare bulbs can be found on Ebay or try deben.com.

I use open sights a lot but I think you will want a scope for lamping even at short range. Maybe you would be ok with fibre optic sights if your rifle has them?

The gun has very useable sights, i think they are fibre optic - just a little light from behind is needed and the dots on the sights glow up. Im thinking of buying an old petzl spot headtorch - half the price of a new bulb for the Atom.
