Ideation 8,216
Depends what you want it to do - but i'd agree with above - either a whippet or small lurcher - and collie / beddy x's are some of the best. That dog should be able to mark, bush and catch and you also have a dog you can use on its own! atb jai. Quote Link to post
theferreter 311
a collie x grey they make great ferreting dogs Quote Link to post
Bradford Lad 74
get a small lurchur mate, beddlington whipped or a 3/4 whippet 1/4 collie will perfect for ferreting Definately beddy/whippet, best of both worlds Quote Link to post
ferreter.al 22
on the other hand if you get a collie/grey or a beddy grey if you ever want to use it for anything else i.e retriving bigger quarry then you got best of both worlds!! atvb Quote Link to post
The one 8,477
Depends what your going to do with it as there working stlyles totally diffent but a small whippet cross lurcher should be more laid back Quote Link to post
Sorley x 32
First off a lurcher is the only serious choice, terriers will mark but after that they offer little. A ferreting dog needs to be able to concentrate for an ages when not much is happening. Great ferreting dogs do not happen over night they need lots of experience and are worth their weight in gold. Most will catch any rabbits that miss nets within a few feet so dont ned to be massively fast just quick witted. They need a good coat to protect from vbrambles hedges etc etc, unfortunately that rules out anything with a lot of whippet in it. yes a lot of people use whippets for ferreting. The very best ferreting lurchers that I have seen all have ONE thing in common - they have a LOT of collie blood in them. Good luck with what ever you choose. Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
Collie x Grey would be my first choice, good smart allrounder, and soft as s**t with kids if kept as a family pet, the only down side is you may need a bigger settee to fit you all on Quote Link to post
