hunting rat

Recommended Posts

Just a quick one as ferreting is not my main field sport i prefer terriers and lurchers and hounds, but as most people do i started of with ferreting when i was a young lad and still do on the odd time now, but when were younger we used to ferret rats on a couple of allotments with an old chap and they worked them well, so do any of you ferret rats or have a strain of ratting ferrets ??

I did have them when i was a young lad that would do it and yeah alot of them gave up and received some nasty bites but the old fella that used to do it they never seemed to take any punishment and could move them real quick and would occasionaly kill them obviously this was 20 odd years ago i just wondered if any 1 still used ferrets for this as it seems alot quicker with smokers i do ferret a few times a year as dogs take up most of my time, but i was out over the xmas hols with a digging freind of mines nephew ferreting at the back of an open pig farm and we bolted a few and yeah i grabbed the 1st one in the net by instinct much to my horror when i realised what it was lol need less to say i wasnt so quick to the netts from there on in

You hit the nail on the head mate. Yes, people still do it but now that smokers are readily available they are a far better alternative to getting your ferrets knocked about for something you can't eat.

I hate rats. In fact i would go so far as to say its a borderline phobia. Whenever they are near i can be found standing VERY near my jrt.
