turbotyke, have to agree with you there, good looking dog, i had the double of it 20yrs ago(greyhound/collie x greyhound/deerhound)best dog i ever had.

I would be very interested in seeing alot more of these type of dogs on here. I just dont think you can go wrong, even a splash of bulldog couldnt hurt in the mix but not much.

imo an old type lurcher is a collie/droveing ker type crossed with a greyhound, rough or smooth.looks wouldnt come into it as anyone useing a lurcher years ago was poaching so the dog would not want to be a racy looking posey type, its as simale as that,

I can only speak as i have seen in the area that i grew up in and not until the 70s 90pct of running dogs were whippets or grews and greyhounds with the odd beddy cross in the early 70s the deerhound lurcher was very popular and other rough coated types wich were all called lurchers and smooth coated dogs were still called grews despite their breeding.atb dell

Just what I was saying in my post Poach, different area's produced differing Lurcher types, dependent on what was around. When folk refer to the 'traditional' Lurcher as being herding bred, i'd always beg to differ. Yes, some of the first Lurchers in print were wrote about of this type of ancestry but who knows if that was just the type that belonged to the writers particular area??? :hmm:

Anyway's, good thred lads though it's hard to get past Dan Edwards avator!! :icon_eek:8) Thank's Dan

them old lurcher types were a hardy mix and many had a tough existance,no pampering back then.remember going to look at a dog for sale very early 80,s with a mate.owner took us into the backyard no kennel to be seen,he opens the coalhouse us expecting atleast to to see a dog box, there on the coal heap was the dogs bed,saw some very good dogs from them days

I suppose this is quite an old fashioned looking lurcher by todays standards.

THE OWNER HHAS A HEAD LIKE MY MRS

:D Maybe she's my mate's long-lost twin sister . To be honest he normally stays home around the full moon but he did'nt want to miss the show .
