slipper 116
I recently applied for my shotgun certificate, after six weeks had a letter back with my cheque and photos, gutted to be honest as i've got a clean record and i'm fit as a fiddle plus i've got twenty years shooting experience! Not much compared to some I know, but I know what i'm doing, ( my gun has been on my dads certificate) anyway he said because of my doctors report he was'nt satisfied, it said on the report I had incidents of low blood sugar but that was over two years ago! My GP being a bunny hugger does'nt help but has anybody else with diabetes had any bother getting a certificate? Quote Link to post

events co-ordinator 353
This may seem strange but my old man was a taxi driver and the PCO in London revoked licences for some taxi drivers who were diabetic this was overturned. in Glasgow there was an infamous person in the Licencing dept and he was doing this too he was even trying to stop people getting a licence for things they had NOT been convicted of. HE is no longer there this is why my old man's a SACS member this guy was lining up to take my dads certificate but when the SACS lawer got on to it my dad got a letter of apology from the police. Are you allowed to drive if so I reckon you would get it on appeal Quote Link to post

events co-ordinator 353
All the more reason to belong to an organisation like SACS or BASC. Quote Link to post
CharlieT 32
I presume you are a type 1 Diabetic who until a couple of years ago did not have your blood sugar under control and have a history of far too many "lows". As you know when experiencing a "low" you could well be unconscious and therefore in practice not be in control of a firearm, a fact that would not sit well with your FEO. I would suggest you have a word with your FEO and licensing manager to discuss their concerns. They may advise you to reapply when your diabetes has been stable for a period of time. You should also discuss the matter with both your doctor and Diabetic Consultant. There are many type 1 diabetics with FAC's but as with all medical conditions all are treated on individual merits. There is no reason why you would be refused just because you are a diabetic, rather because of your own personal unstable blood glucose history which is rectifiable. Quote Link to post
