another safari today.

had a phone call last night from a farmer friend,he was sounding fairly desperate and asked me to come out and cull a few ferral goats. He told me there were at least 60 goats rumaging about in the top fields eating the grass.I arrived with my hunting partner and we drove into the yard. The elderly gent said hed take us to the spot that he saw them at yesterday.Up the steep hill we climbed and ahead I got that GROSS  waft of billy goat piss  Up to the first ditch and there in the next field was a herd of roughly 20-30 goats, young and old.I picked a spot on the ditch and made myself comfy and I cockrd, aimed and fired,1 down.Like a panic stricken rabbit everything was a blurr after that, cock and load, cock and load. The herd were now trying to make out which way to run as I shot the fore runners each time I aimed.Well in no time the smelly ones were gone over the hill and I walked up to where my victims lay slain.I was well pleased with my accuracy,ALL :toast: were hit in the head, the damage done by the .223 is unbelievable. It takes lumps out of them.well the farmer was more than pleased. It was 8.45 a.m.I asked kieran if he wanted to continue to pursue the goats as it was a bit early to go home.We agreed the goats needed a bit more attention and the farmer was happy that we would try to get another few.Up the hill we went and over a few ridges,we could smell the horrible buggers and were only a bit behind them but evidently they were moving away from us all the time. After 3 miles of hacking through the heather and scrub we spoted them over a few hundred yards from us.We back tracked and used the ground as cover I came within 60 yards of them.I settled in and put the cross hairs on the big bucks and let rip.Panic amongst the herd ensued and I accounted for another 5.So all in all we had 12 in the bag so to speak. We left them where they lay for the foxes as it was impossible to get them back to where we came from due to the terrain.I also left the camera in the van and was well pissed off over that.On the way back I spoted a lone kid maybe 300 yards from us.I lay down and pulled the trigger,he felt the bullet but ran a short distance and then fell over.I collected him and brought him back as we wernt far from the farmhouse,so 13 in the pot.The farmer had collected the other goats and loaded them into the JCB front bucket and he raised them level with the ditch where we gutted them without having to pull them about and then were put into the back of the van.
