ferret finders

Recommended Posts

hi im new to ferreting and went on my first ferreting trip yesterday and hooked for life but im really not sure about buying a ferret finder. i was out with 2 experenced ferreters yesterday one using mk1 and other using the new mk3. the one using the mk3 has had nothing but problems and just got it back after sending it back twice since buying it and it was nothing but a problem yesterday and had to stop using it yet the mk1 was excellent. i would obviously like to buy new with garrentee and so on but at the same time dont want to be out in the field and start having problems. i know i could get problems with the mk1 but i was hoping someone might have some advise or may know others that may of had problems with either finders. thanks for reading please help.

i have both and think there both as good as each other but if your mk1 8ft goes wrong you cant get it sorted unless you know someone :whistling: have the mk3m and it has that little bit advantage cos is 16ft when i go out i take a mk1 box just in case as they will pick up the mk3 collars  but the mk3s wont pick up the mk1 collar :whistling:

I wouldn't knock the mark 1s, very good finder, But getting old and becoming harder to find parts for them.

I have the mk3 and the newer mk3m, used them for the last 2 seasons without a problem, the mk3m is imho the better collar simply because it is waterproof, another advantage/drawback is that it can be turned on and off so you don't have to remove the batteries, but be carefull, i've stuck the ferret down the hole a couple of times before realising i hadn't turned the bloody thing on.:wallbash:

I use mk1's, they are great, but not made any more and are a slowly becoming extinct.

The mk3 is the only real way to go now to be honest. (Even i'll have to get one in the end!)

thanks for all your advise everyone i just lost out on a mk1 and two collors on ebay but after your advise i think it has to be the mk3 with two collors and maybe keep a look out for a mk1 box as a backup and also cant be arsed to wait for another one come up on ebay i want to be back out in the week  thanks again everyone

Got a mk3 no probs (3 seasons) like the search feature. I don`t like the collar I wrap it in insulation tape before use the mk3m looks a better collar.

I would buy new everytime leave the old ones alone they where great but just for the collector now.

They are alot of money to buy but a must have if not just to find a ferret but make the day keep moving along.
