hi there, no dought this topic is going to get alot of different answers... well... it does depend on how much you have to spend to start with :hmm: , also when you go down the pre charged route you have to think how you will re-fill your rifle (buddy bottle, stirrup pump, or just down the diving centre)

money no object :D i might be tempted to go daystate air wolf mct, theoben rapid mkII or the ripley elite (im sure the guys on here will give pros and cons for each)

middle range is the BSA R10 (considering myself) air arms s510 (there a link on here showing a vid of pelet on pellet accuracy at 50m!!) and maybe the falcon prairie?

it does kinda come down to price and the whole outfit really (scope, charging equipment, accessories etc) but i would suggest to go to your local gun shop, try a few in your shoulder and shop around.

hope that helps :thumbs: ?? and good luck!!

Cheers mate, i have been looking about and they seem to range in price from around 400 upwards. The type of shooting i would be doing would be ,is with a lamp on foot or lamping from a 4x4 , quad etc. Is there a massive improvement in performance as the price goes up? Or would a cheaper gun give the same results. thanks for your help.. chris

okay well thats a real mine field of a question.... okay...

yes i think the more you pay for a gun the better accuracy you get but you are talking in the case of some guns a very tiny amount.. for example a BSA R10 is £599 gun only... a daystate air wolf MCT is £1100..... the accuracy when you are out hunting will but un-noticeable. Air arms s200 onwards get great feedback and like you say they are £400 upwards, falcons again are £400 upwards.

if it was me and it was my first gun i would probably look at getting a well sorted 2nd hand one, no dought loads of lads on here have some for sale, they would be able to take all the guess work out of what pellet works best with the barrel... what scope fits best... how many good shots i get per charge... etc etc,

but if you have your heart set on a new one and your going to have it a while i really would suggest going a little bit higher, get a nice set up with a rifle that sit in your shoulder nicely, not too heavy if your gona be lamping as the kit weighs a bit.

keep looking on hear at peoples comments and like i said try a few as you might find they dont "feel" right

good luck mate and let me know which way you go....

i dont know how much your gunshop charges but mine sells air arms s200s for £350. for £400 i would be thinking air arms s400 (my gun and absaloutley brilliant) maybe some of the falcon range. look around and see what takes your intrest and what fits you. nearly all modern pcp's are accurate and powerful enough to take down rabbits. bear in mind that you will need a diving bottle,or if you have a gun with a very small cylinder) a stirrup pump which will cost you £100+

this is my s400 and in my opinion it would be a good gun for you. £375 plus the cost of a diving bottle and maybe £50 on a scope and your ready to go:

yeah i agree an aa s400 for £400 :thumbs: is a cracking deal and a new s200 for £350 is good too, i have a stirrup pump with my 500cc bottle on my storm... the only reason i can do that is i top it up after every outing... if i let it go all the way down which i did when drum did my valve work then it nearly took me 2 hours to pump up as they get very hot when you try to pump 3000psi into an empty bottle!!! :doh: if you get a diving bottle (3ltr 300bar new) is about £120 then just charge it up at a diving centre or similar when it runs out. i nice IR scope would be good for lamping ;)

good luck mate

My honest suggestion would be to go to a shop and try shouldering the different rifles. SFS will even let you shoot them without a scope attached on their indoor range so that you can find a rifle you are really comfortable with.

I've owned or used a lot of the pcp rifles on the market and tbh in terms of accuracy/power there's not a lot in it but in terms of feel and individual fit and comfort theres some very good rifles that I wouldn't consider just because they dont suit my shooting style etc.

Hi Stormrider8,

After reading your thread I suggest the following:

Due to the fact that you want the rifle to shoot rabbits from either foot or a 4x4, I think that you need a rifle that isn’t too heavy and is a multi shot, as loading while holding on to 4x4 would be dangerous and tricky.

Nearly all of the modern PCP rifles will shoot more accurately than the shooter is capable of shooting and so accuracy isn’t a problem as long as you have matched the correct pellet to the barrel.

If you don’t want to spend too much money but want a really good rifle I would look at the

Air Arms S200 with the multi shot magazine

Or

BSA Ultra multi shot

Here is the research done for you pal

Air Arms S200 = £335

Air Arms S200 Retro fit 10 shot magazine = £61.95

JSR 3-9x50 mil dot scope = £23.99

GunTuff 2 piece high mounts from JSR = £8.99

Brocock stirrup pump = £89.99 from eBay

All the above are brand new items

Total £519.92p

BSA Ultra multi shot = £390

JSR 3-9x50 mil dot scope = £23.99

GunTuff 2 piece high mounts from JSR = £8.99

Brocock stirrup pump = £89.99 from eBay

All the above are brand new items

Total £512.97p

I hope that this helps you pal

a good mate of mine has a s200 and he swares by it i think the above is a fantastic kit price, i defiantly say the AA s200 over the bsa ultra.

good luck mate let us know what you end up going for..

Link to post

some good advice there :thumbs:

only thing i will add, is if you a shooting from a vehicle look for a shorter gun ( carbine) as a full length gun can be a pain in the arse.

bsa ultra is perfect for this........but not the best by a long way. any of the AIR ARMS range are good.

buy what "fits" and you wont go far wrong.

if i was you i wouldent go for the ultra. some people love em but i think there a bit too complicated to cock. maybe an air arms s400 carbine.

s400k=£375

jsr 3-9x40=£30

med mounts=£10

divebottle=£130

total=£545

bearing in mind s/h equipment will eb much cheaper. my s400 with scope and mounts and gunbag was s/h nad and had ver little marks on it. i got it for £330!

aas410 carbine would be my choice for you mate. you dont want anything too bulky and long if your in a truck. if your shooting off a quad id use a shotgun to be hounest be a bit mental using an airgun for that i think but each to there own. get a decent second had aa i would cheers tom
