slipper 116
hi mate, not owned one myself but i've seen a few, they are not the most intelligent dogs so thats why people cross them with other breeds to give them brains, lack stamina aswell, i'm not saying they are all like that but most are! make good pets, but working wise steer clear, atb slipper Quote Link to post
sighthound1811 6
a worked one for years mate...shes my avatar pic.. a posted pics of her ages ago but dont know how to view them now...she was too fast for rabbits( got into top gear too quickly)..often trampled them while chasing them..good on the old long ears though.. her prey drive was through the roof..game as fcuk on rabbits ,hares, foxes an deer ..if ye get one young enough you can train it to your needs..there not all as dumb as people would have you believe..av got a wee lurcher now but a would not hesitate to have another grey..... dont know bout the rest but mine was an excellent guard dog as well..all the best ..chris Quote Link to post

border lad 1,047
I have had a couple of greyhounds in the past, one ex, coursing dog, he used to jump the fences, he was given to me for that reason, a very handy dog, next one came from Burnley, a big red dog, stood about 28" a very handy dog on rabbits and Hares, my opinion, if you can get hold of a bitch, pup, and rear her, the same as you would of a lurcher, ((( the downside they are injury prone, feet and fine coat,(( although those 2 I mentioned I had No problems with, but they were running mainly on grass fields, and some stubble they stood up to it,and then the plus side is if your bitch is a success, you can breed from her to any SIRE, of your choice, both of those greyhounds were in 1972// 76, Quote Link to post

Guest bluemink
If you do go for a greyhound I wouldn't advise getting an ex recer. go for a pup and train it like any other lurcher Quote Link to post
