pencoed hunter 7
Just bought some new nice big water bottles for my ferrets what can i use to stop the water icing up and bottles from turning green the water gets changed everyday but still turns green and makes the water dirty Quote Link to post
heritage 202
if the water is being changed regularly and the bottles cleaned then they shouldnt go green, for this to happen in a 24hr period is very un-usual unless the bottles are in direct/constant sunlight. as for the freezing, i dont like addetives or the wrapping of bottles so id reccomend a second set that can be kept indoors, then instead of de-icing simply rotate the bottles.atb Quote Link to post

heritage 202
I use a bottle brush, or you could just leave the bottles to soak. you can use bleech (a tiny amount) or one of the cleaners that are intended for babys bottles.wichever one you opt for just ensure the bottles are well rinsed. deanflute 550
I wrap mine in foil and then put a sock over them. Stops them freezing. To clean I use some dry pasta put the lid on a give it a good shake Quote Link to post
longnetter 32
I used to use dried rice to clean mine , now I use a bottle brush. Have the same problem with them going green tho and the cages are in a shed Two bottles per cage change them morning and night seems to be the only way to keep them clean and stop them freezing/becoming tepid (in summer) ATB Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
A little bit of rice in the bottle & shake it ... swill it out & re fill... easy peasy Quote Link to post
4x4dartmoor 2
Just put garlic clover in to the water bottle and that will stop it freezing. We use this in our chicken drinkers and had know problems. Hope that helps you. Quote Link to post
Hywel 53
Shaking a little bit of fine sand in the bottle works. The green stuff will then be removed once you rinse the bottle Quote Link to post
