.204 + IOR = Dead Foxes

Well, a mate that i go out with quite a lot has a big permission on Exmoor. We hadnt been out scince before Christmas so decided its time to start hitting them before lambing really gets started, lamping from the quad.

 

Total of the night was 4, ive only got a pic of one due to the fact of not being arsed to cross the valley to take pics...... could have had 6........ i missed one and so did Ian

 

 

i rekon we must have seen 10, we will be going out again next week to try and keep on top of them.

 

 

 

 

This was a Dog taken at about 250 over a valley, with my newly mounted IOR that i am extremely impressed with, excellent edge 2 edge clarity, great light gathering and a reticle that i like. And my home loaded 39grn Sierra BK`s.

 

 

 

 

All in a very good nite if a bit wet

Truth is I know very little about these IOR scopes, and I don't know anyone who has one...Romania is hardly known as the world centre of scope optics but I do hear these are pretty good.

 

Which model and reticle (is there a choice) do you have??

 

Anyone else about that has one of these and has any comments...

I would also like to hear peoples comments on IOR scopes as my mate has just ordered one from Border Barrels , I gather that they are really good and a lot cheaper than S & B and Swaro for the same spec ....

To be honest i couldnt be happier, i got mine for £700 delivered including steel rings.

 

I know that alot of US shooters like them, take a look on the net

 

 

 

The 35mm tube lets loads of light through, they have a very solid build quality, all together im very happy with the purchase

 

 

Hopefully lamping on Exmoor again this weds.......

 

 

i will try and get some more pics of the scope taken if any of you chaps are intrested, heres one of the reticle anyways.

 

mine is the Tactical 6-24x50

Sounded like a good night have noticed guy's in the US forum's talking about your scope, and getting good feedback, well done the other night i am going out tonight to see if there's much about[Charlie] but having a problem at the moment with guy's poaching[Deer+foxes] so need eye's in the back of my head

Nice one mate .204 cal seems to be doing the bis i have now made up my mind to add one of these to my ticket, what rifle do you recomend i was thinking Rem or Howa

Lewdan - Mines a Remington 700 SPS Varmint, although i have a mate with a Howa 1500 and thats the biz aswell, i got a remington based on the number of aftermarket parts avaliable on the net- e.g i got a HS Precision stock off ebay.com. Regarding Ruger rifles i cant comment as i havnt used one.

 

I would insist that you had a heavy barrel varmint version of which ever rifle you go for, also if its a 1 in 12 twist it will have fo be 26" DONT BE TEMPTED TO CUT DOWN AS YOU WILL LOOSE VELOCITY. Also if its a 1 in 12 it might struggle to stabalise the 40grns...... some like them some dont..... mine didnt. But the 39grns sierras shoot like a treat

 

 

To get the best you will have to reload.

It's probably well known by many that I am not a fan of the .204, I looked hard at it some time ago but from what I have seen and used and heard I have no regrets about leaving it!!

 

Now, don't go getting all upset, I have 7 different FAC tools and I can live without it, and yes, I have all the common ones...common because they work, have a wide ammo choice and are easy to find factory ammo or reload....I'm too old to start with all this malarkey.

 

The .204 has a place, but as many know it is temperamental and fussy in the extreme, and I certainly do not need a 26 inch heavy barrel to lug around in the field.

 

If you have a specialist requirement, find the right ammo, get lucky with the rifle and are built like the Hulk then I'm sure you are going to be happy!!

As for the 26" heavy barrel, whilst on the shoulder with a good sling it's not that bad.

Absolutely right, all guns are ammo sensitive to an extent and perhaps there are others more sensitive than the .204, but I haven't found any yet!!

 

I've never heard of a 26" heavy barrel rifle being "ideal" for vehicle use!

 

BUT BUT BUT, the point I am making is that I have no use for one. Others may well have a use, and indeed a good one with the right ammo may well be a corker!

 

And....you're a tuff cookie if you can carry a 26" heavy barrel rifle for long in the field!!
