Can anyone help with advising me where to get a decent cleaning kit for my .17 hmr , I have a boresnake but want a proper kit with rods etc , have looked about but seem to be struggling

Plenty of kits about and some can be useful but to be honest they are either cheap and nasty, don't contain what you really want, have TOO MUCH in them, or simply come in a VERY expensive box.

 

Buy what you need seperately, and do your best to find a Dewey rod!!

 

Oh yes...and throw away your boresnake!!

Agree with Deker. What I use is a rod and instead of messing around with bits of tissue paper I use the swan cigarette filters, the ones you use if you roll your own cigs. I use these for both my .22 rim fire and HMR, they cost bugger all and you get loads in the box

Yes:

From a 'former' 17HMR user.

Get a Dewey rod from 'Midway UK' (Brace yourself £35+), make sure it's not to long/short, check your rifle's

barrel length!

Then from Rimfire magic get 'some' brushes and a couple of jags, I say 'some' brushes i.e. 4 or 5 at least as they don't last very long as the bristles are very short and bend over and cease to function after 4 or 5 uses!

Also I really recommend that you get a bore guide, if youve got BRNO then 'easy peasy' either way Rimfire Magic web site has the 'stuff'for most common rifles.

Use a decent copper-solvent cleaner as you are now firing proper copper jacketed bullets, I use Remington bore cleaner, but there are loads of similar and equally good solvents out there(dont drink it though, however tempting).
