Nice lookin fish. She must have her eggs dumped now. I had 1 there this evenin and the spawn was runnin out of her. Caught a fish a few years back with two traces stuck in it where people had obviously broke in her. 1 still had a mackrel attached so she obviously wasnt long after takin it but it didnt stop her tryin to feed again. Got all removed from her and put her back, she was none the worse. We still get pollen on the erne aswell but they live in a huge depth of water! ATB Mark

Funny you say that pal first time I caught it at 26.5 there was a trace wire in its mouth that I removed. Very hardy fish. Though deserve respect and proper ediquitte but these things do happen on snap offs.

Nice one mudd ! i wonder what age that pike is now :hmm:

What u reckon yourself lump ?? The water in question isnt a big lake maybe 8 acre. Very few bait fish, eel and perch as far as we know threw fishing it for all sorts. I thought at the beginning there was trout in the water but I doubt very much now personnally.

Apperantly acording to A dr Kennedy the growth rate of pike in the irish loughs is amazingly fast and one fish reached a weight of 41lb in eight years as told in Fred Bullers pike and the pike angler a book i would highly recomend to any body whos intrested in fishing for them.

That is very interesting poacher. I myself was under the belief that pike would only gain 2-3lbs maximum a year. that being in a habitat that was plentiful in food source. What is your views on this

From your own experience and knowledge and what age would you think that particular fish is considering the size of the water and limited food sources contained in it from my belief ? It's not a big lake as I mentioned earlier though it's natural from the ice ages as the land around it is self explanatory. high hills all around and from 5/6 ft from the edge a drastic drop on ledges to 8 then 13 then 18 ft. I plumbed it a few times out far and 28ft was the max reading I got. Alot of the pike we have caught from it are heavily marked by other pike and we have had a few taking others on the way in on a handful of occasions.

I would put the fish to be at least ten years old.The book i mentioned has a chapter in it all about the growth rate and age of pike wich makes intresting reading and says their can be a lot of variation in the growth rate of pike from different waters.
