wirral countryman 2,110 Posted February 1, 2010 Author Report Share Posted February 1, 2010 YOU PLUMMER LADS TALK SOME REET BOLLOCKS CALL MY DOG OUT THEN THEY BOLT / MY DOGS HALF HEARTED WALKS OFF THE JOB THEN THEY COME . sounds like somebody's never had a decent dog ,I suppose there's only one way and thats forward,you've probably never had a clean bolt in your life,we've all had the hard dogs with no face you c'nt take out,grow up and expand your brain,you might get a hat to to fit instead of that flat one,people with plummer's and russells that are biddable will know what I mean,they're nothing like lakies or fells,patterdales but you need patience and you can't whack um to much when they're young to get the best out of them. Just over 7 months old and hes doin fine. Hes a big lad mind ,but it dont bother me cos i got him for rattin not diggin. Cleanspade 3,322 Posted February 1, 2010 Report Share Posted February 1, 2010 I could call my old dog out but why would i want to? if i lead him to the earth and i know what the dogs working stile is, then why put him in and call him out when the going gets tough? it makes your dog look better then it realy is, it should go and stay until dug to or the fox bolts a little dog that shouts out is a very handy tool if used right. we call em a front dog. you can use em to find out whats what before you use a dog who is less biddable. you can run it through earths to find and then call it out to try a dog more suitable or try a pup. its not about calling it off when it gets tough. you can call it out and wait a while and nine times out of ten the fox will bolt in a short time. you dont need to use them all of the time but if you have one and your controlling foxes. you tend to use them more than the others becouse the speed the job up. and getting good results quick style does you no harm in the eyes of the landowners. they have many bonuses but the best one for me is the fact that good holding earths arnt dug up. and there is little sighn you have been there fook all wrong with a good digging terrier. but they have there limitations Quote Link to post

Are you suggesting the characteristics of the breed should be changed? Am man in your postion surely would benefit from a trained dog, seeing as you ain't no gamekeeper protecting your shoot birds.
