Cleanspade 3,324
my bitch is also unspannable and gets to some the last one took three and a half hours. if i had used one of my smaller terriers i.m pretty sure i could have had it out to the gun in under half an hour. dont get me wrong i like the bigger bitch she is very handy all round. but if i was working earths regular in a control situation i would use the smaller dogs. common sense really. but the old saying common sense aint that common rings true in terrierwork thats one reason i do mainly small fry these days sounds like you know your stuff mate,as we all get older we find it easier to use our brains not our brawn, why dig all day,if I wanted to do that I would get an allotment,if your dog gets smashed up its out the game for weeks, you would need a large kennel of dogs to go out regular. i like to bolt em if possible. and if worked right the majority will to many folk dony know its a simple job. and give wind as they walk up to an earth. talking and smoking' they then walk all over the earth put there heads down the holes. dogs barking. and generally doing everything to make the job harder for the dog. i try not to warn that i'm there and stand down wind slip the dog quietly if your positioned right the dog will be away and the fox wont be long before it shows. i have an old bitch here that will shout off and ive had as many bolt after she's out as i have when she is down working of cource it doesnt allways go to plan but most of the time it does. i dig for a living and have dug many pre ban. but i'm getting to old now. and dont like my dogs takeing any more stick than they need to i could get more with a little yappy dog that will shout out than with any other work style. yet folk arnt impressed by this sort edited to say i dig holes at my job as a builder not terrierwork. so as to save any misunderstandings Edited January 30, 2010 by Cleanspade 1 Quote Link to post
Big bald beautiful 1,231
I have only had trouble with fighting in my yard, never get it out when there working. been out with 10 or more plummers and no bother. i did have a bitch kill my first plummer bitch, but that was the first and only fight they had. that was in my yard when they were running loose and i left them to go out and get dog food, they were alone for 25 minutes but thats all it took for one to half kill the smaller one. Big bald beautiful 1,231
As a ratting /bushing dogs the plummers take some beating. Im fed up with the breed and i cant see me breeding another litter, if i could breed a dog as steady and with the same temprament as my old dog i would. i have found a lot of mine are noisy in kennels(next door has one that barks 24/7), , very moody as a breed. I bought in a red pat x lakie and he is very forward and was flying to ground at 7 mths, will crash in to cover as well as any plummer i have had.and i dont want the politics and bull shit the plummer attracts, even if i spout most of it. i used to enjoy looking at plummers on the net, and at shows.. i just havnt the time for them sadly Edited January 31, 2010 by Big bald beautiful Quote Link to post
