Well today was my beaters day, and i was really exited, so exited i even got up before my alarm went off 7:30 :clapper: . So i got up got my gun, carts, hat and got dressed and mum dropped me off at Monachty Shoot. So i got there at around 8:30 as mum works in the school so i am normally early if i go beating. I was there for about half an hour before the other shooters got there, it seemed like they got there all the same time.

So we picked a card, and the people who picked a back colour card were on the black team and the people who picked a red card were n the red team, I pick the 5 of hearts red so i was with the game keeper, and 4 others. We set off on the first drive and our team was standing on the first one, heres a picture of my stand, but unfortunately no birds came over me, but the gun to my right hand a few shots.

The second drive we were beating and the other team were standing. It was a good drive called "The Dam" you can probably guess, it had a dam in it where there are a few duck, So i walked along this game crop where 7 snipe got up about 60yds in-front of me, way out of range for the shotgun, and they did fly in the right direction either which was a shame. Heres a pic or two of where i was walking through

And to my right, can you see the Game Keeper?

At the end where the flushing point is, the ducks were lifted and they circled above then they started coming in. A drake was coming in my way and i quickly shouldered the gun and shot it, this one took two shots and was down. Then as soon as i reloaded another drake was coming straight for me and BANG he was dead as a dodo. Truly great sport. Then as we were leaving, me and the Game Keeper spotted a squirrel in the tree, so we both shot it and this little bugger took 4 shots before it came down, they are tough fakers

The we went for a cup of tea and food which was about 20 mins in length and then off the to third drive where we were standing and the black team where beating. I was at the end of the wood on the right hand side because some pheasant dont always go straight over the guns, they tend to swing off the right and fly back around behind the beaters, but i was there with the semi to make sure they didn't

So i hear the beaters shout " OVER " and i seen this cock bird flying from the wood straight in my direction, i got really exited because this was my first ever driven pheasant, so i lifted my gun, flick off the safety, swung through and BANG, one nicely cleanly killed pheasant with one shot that landed no mroe than 20 FT away from me :D , what a BUZZ. Then about 5 mins later, another "OVER" and a second pheasant had take the same pheasants path and was flying my way, so i lifted the gun, switched the safety to OFF and BANG, this one i shot just behind, and was coming down, but there was no dog in the field, so i shot it again and killed it because if it had ran off then i would have no way of finding it.

Where the pheasant came out of, straight over my head

The third fourth is called " South Lodge" and this time we were beating. So i walked on the out side with the beaters, waiting for a pheasant or any other game bird to appear, but nothing. All the pheasant were being shot from inside the forest. As we neared the end i heard the sound of a woodcocks wings flapping and looked to my right to see a woodcock about 40yds heading for home flying left to right, so i had 3 shots, but i didn't hit it, not once, i could not believe it  , but no worries there always next time.

Im going back on saturday for a days shooting and some flighting in the evening as-well. All i can say for today that it was the greatest days shooting i have ever had, It was so much fun. I really really enjoyed it. Hope you like the pics.
