Rifleman88 28
Just a quick one lads, I've just recieved my FAC and the rifle I'm thinking of is a cz style in 22lr. The drama is that my local dealer hasn't got any in stock and won't have for a fortnight. Is it worth travelling to Exeter (£50 petrol) to pick up the rifle or should I use that £50 to buy a better rifle, any advice on a first rifle for around £500 or a closer gun dealer from s.Wales is much apprieciated. Cheers lads RM. Quote Link to post

Rifleman88 28
That's my local dealer, havnt got any in. They do however have the style in 17 hmr. This will be my first firearm so I'm not that sure on a first rifle. I know the hmr is flatter shooting and you get more range but the noise is a big thing for me. Are 17hmr's a lot louder than 22lr's ? Are they as loud a a shottie for instance? Cheers RM. Quote Link to post
danw 1,748
it will specify on your fac whether you can buy a .17 or .22 I would get the .22 the cz is a good rifle to start with though it does not have the range it is a more versatile round imho the .17 is not as loud as a shotgun when fitted with a moderator but again it will specify on your fac as to whether you can buy one Quote Link to post
IanB 0
If you want a cz gets a .22 carbine american, better than the varmint IMO, also go for and eric brookes trigger kit, makes them a lot better... Or you could always splash out and get an anchuntz or sako ?? Quote Link to post
Rifleman88 28
On my FAC I've got 17,22 and 223 all with mods so I've got a good choice of rifles. Quote Link to post
Rifleman88 28
Woulnt mind the American but can find a brooks trigger kit anywhere. Quote Link to post
Colster 1
You'll probably have more luck getting a SYSS or YoDave trigger kit (same basic stuff anyway) - although I'd wait until you get the gun, mine didn't need lightening (was 2.5lb break from new and I gather this has been some other peoples experience with brand new CZ's) As to your gunshop not having it in stock seems a bit strange, took my gunsmith 2 days to get a 16" Silhouette in from Edgar Bros. Cracking rifles I have to say, never seen any point spending the extra on Anschutz or Sako, just buy a better scope or beer or something. Quote Link to post
Rifleman88 28
Cheers for the feedback lads, I'll let you know how I get on this weekend. RM Quote Link to post

If his local gun shop is the sportsman then it is no surprise as they excel in poor service. I agree about the anschutz/sako although I have an anschutz I don't pay for my rifles if I had to it would be a cz and then spend big money on the .223 Quote Link to post

langouroux 14
the service at sportman gun centre is SH*T mate! a bunch of kids generally speaking last time i went in there. i had ordered a new tikka from them ...cut a long story short the service was bad so i got them to refund my deposit and i actually bought it £60 cheaper from helston gunsmith!!!!! also i would agree with above and buying a second hand cz.452LR i did buy my 452 new but looking back i should have put the cash towards my stalking rifle instead. there is some really good deals on www.guntrader.co.uk for .22LR's Quote Link to post
