Couple of pics of my young dog. These were taken a couple of months back when he was eight months old.

I acquired the dog as a six week old puppy from a friend, that has run an excellent line of Patterdales for a while. I bought the pup to intially own as a pet, but curiosity had me out with him in late Autumn to see if he was interested in a bit of Ratting. He took to it instantly, no other dogs around.. just the pup marking and digging out Rats. He was soon bushing out Foxes from heavy cover at ten months old, and though he came close to a few he clumsily always lost scent or took the wrong line. It was really enjoyable watching him learning what he was bred for, without any encouragement from me or any other dogs. I shown him countlees earths, which he just sniffed at walked away.. some looked as thought they held to me, but i trusted he's nose, which is better than my eyes. When i went checking earths with this young dog i was sometimes apprehensive.. Would he? wouldn't he? He had never even seen a Fox carcass, but hunted scent as though he was on a charge whenever he came across it. I recieved a phone call a week or so ago.. I have run a Fox to ground with the Lurcher. I was on my way home from work and told him to hold on. I collared the dog and let him run freely as i usually do, we neared the earth and and he went in one. A few minutes later, he's arse was out kicking sand at us, then he went again and returned kicking sand out again. He went again then engaged.. Boom, Boom. We left him a while then i got a mark and dropped a hole. I broke through and the Fox pushed him back down the tube to the entrance. It backed up and punished the dog, then moved back up toward the hole i had left open. The Fox bolted with dog right behind and met he's end. The dog made mistakes, which i put down to first time entry into any earth and inexperience. Though he did he's job.. i have high hopes that this young fella can carry on the line of these excellent Patterdales.
