Going to need to get another gun safe shortly, and thinking of getting a fabricator friend of mine to make me one, instead of buying one from a shop.

Does anyone know what spec they need to be ? as in minimum Thickness / Gauge of steel etc ? any other details that need to be taken in to acount ?

Regards

Best speak to your Firearms Enquiry Officer. They may settle for a Steel wire rope padlocked to the back of the broom cupboard or may require something with the British Standard kite mark. It might be cheaper 'buying one of the shelf' rather than the man-hours and materials going in to a D.I.Y

Id agree with that. I looked into the same to be honest. In the end i got a brand new 7 or 8 gun cabinet for 120quid. Couldnt beat that sort of price trying to get one made. If you need a smaller cabinet, a 3 gun one can typically be picked up 2nd hand for about 70quid.

By all means have a try to make one but as others have said it may well cost you a lot more than buying one complete, and may well cause the FEO some grief.

Lots of Cabinets on the market, have a look around, then have a look here ......
