beagle1812 0
Hi All, I’ve got my FAC and shotgun interview tomorrow. I have applied for a 17HMR and a 22LR. My question is will I need to have a good reason for both? I will be using the 22 for rabbits and I wanted the 17 HMR for longer range shots (less than 120meters). Any thought (serious ones though!) will be really appreciated. Many Thanks, Neil. Quote Link to post
Colster 1
Yes, you will I had .177 and .22 FAC Air on mine originally because as I was planning to buy it second hand it would give me flexibility to grab a bargain in either calibre - that wouldn't wash with the FLO and they said I had to choose because I couldn't justify owning both. Wasn't a problem as I didn't really want .177 in FAC so went with .22 On your licence it would probably say for ground game/vermin for both but your FEO will want to know why one won't do. Usual reasons are things like HMR for long range, LR for quietness but you'd need to demonstrate that your permission has areas where one would be more effective than the other and vice versa. Some FLO's will consider HMR for fox so that's a possibility but you'd need to know they do first, as some areas are dead against it. Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
you can put as stated already that the .22lr will be used for close range rabbiting and you will be wanting to keep the rabbits shot with the .22 for food, be it for pets or yourself, .17 hmr for long range vermin control, crows rabbits, etc..... Also the hmr will be more accurate than the .22 at the longer ranges hence the need for the 2... good luck with it. Snap. Quote Link to post
