Cheers Ratattacks, oil an gas not cheap, go out at slightest breeze, suffer blowbacks, you stink like a chipshop, no noise or vibration which helps rats to bolt. All I can suggest is to buy a brand new motor either a chain saw or strimmer, The trouble is with second hand motors they can be tempremental and unreliable. ATB Quote Link to post
tillylamp 1,830
hi mate, i havent heard many good reports on the ratatack smoker,if i was you i would stick with the chainsaw/strimmer route, find a good reliable engine and you will be fine.i used to use a strimmer engine which worked just as good as a proper smoker. hope this helps. tillylamp Quote Link to post
pritchy 2
dont waste your money mate they are very tempramental to the weather conditions Quote Link to post
Tyla 3,179
Well, thats an emphatic NO then! lol The problem we've had with the chainsaws is that the newer ones we've been using have a slot exhaust which is a pain to fix a pipe to just dont seem to smoke properly, the old ones used to have just a pipe and seemed to work alot better. Any chance of some pictures so i can see what works and what dosent without all the trial and error? Quote Link to post
Big bald beautiful 1,231
The new chainsaws are built so they DONT smoke, a mate traded a brandnew one in at donny carboot for an older model. Quote Link to post

Exactly, what I want is a smokey old pioneer or similar but all I end up with are super efficient smoke free new ones. Guess its just a case of wait and see what turns up. Pictures would still be handy though Quote Link to post

Tyla 3,179
Im sick of trying to keep chainsaw engines running and fancy an alternative. I have heard mixed reports of these things so I would like some first hand advice, are they worth it? Cheers whats wrong with the petrol leaf blower with the exhaust running through the blower Sounds like a blinding idea, is that what you use? I actually have one of them in the shed somewhere? Sounds like the beginnings of a plan How do you get around the multibaffle exhaust? Do you have to make a whole new manifold? Also what ratio mixture do you use? I always seem to be either not getting enough smoke or having loads of smoke but the plug getting oiled up? I even asked my mate to get some two stroke oil for me and he came back with "smokeless" 2 stroke oil Needless to say, it wasnt very good. Sorry for the 20 questions but i've got a fair bit of ratting lined up and im determined not to be let down by the smoker yet again! Edited January 28, 2010 by Tyla Quote Link to post
