Ferreting

Recommended Posts

My and a mate decided to to hi old permission where he lived up north wales on sunday for a bit of ferreting, so we left at 5 in the morning to get there at first light. We got at the first set and bolted 2 but we didnt get them as we put the long net out but the ran in a different way  but we had plenty more hole to ferret. We arrived at the farm, got the kit ready and we got going. We had with us my whippet and my mates lurcher, 2 50ydrs one 10Z the other 6Z, 2 ferrets and 20 purse nest.

We were mainly ferreting hedge rows, put the long nets each side of the hedge at the bottom and then ferret the hedge down and because the dogs will be right behind the rabbits they wont have time to run into the holes, this method worked really well.

We were bolting the rabbits on 2 but we got to the last hedge and bolted 4, before we knew it we had 17 in the bag, and one of those were a black rabbit, PURE black, i have never caught one of these before, so it was a good experience. Then after we finished ferreting we went into the village got a kebab them came bak to the farm and did a bit of lamping and my whippet got 4, she worked really well and i was really pleased with her this trip out ferreting. Anyway, the rabbits are now gutted skinned and sold, we made a few bob on them which was good.
