davyt63 1,845
New permission First scopecam kill!!! Hi every one Chaz & I went over to east hanney this morning to see what was about. And also to meet up with a new landowner, who has a rabbit problem! Well chaz picked me up @ 7:30am and we arrived @ the horse paddocks @ 8:10am, I had to get out, to get the gates, as we like to drive in and park up. In case it starts to rain and we have some cover and a cuppa! As we were having a cuppa in the same corner as the pigeon the visit before a bunny hopped out .just 5 minutes in to are cuppa, I was already loaded so this fell to me .I put the range finder on it 52yds and I do like a long shot, I didnt have time to put me camcorder on .so grabbed me AAS410K .177 And went to the back of the truck, and lent on the spare tyre! I had it in my cross hairs sharpish and controlled my breathing 1.5mildot holdover nice and steady breathing nice gentle suck in of air and out again as I squeeze the trigger pause of breathe THWACK! Over and out it just rolled over a slight twitch of nerves job done! where it fell where it was shot from What a result! after 5 minutes of turning up, so me tinks! This day can only go one way Onwards & upwards. I finished my cuppa and we got are selfs set up for a mooch. Chaz went to his favourite sniping spot, over by the riding school/ring. I headed of to my favourite sniping spot too, the west corner of the paddocks and also where 2 bunnys were earlier lol. This time I put the scopecam into action! And sat cross legged and lent the rifle on my knee whilst supporting the stock with my right hand. I must have sat here for an hour and half, before the target came out to try and dodge my AA fields. When it came out I waited for it to settle, and zoomed in on my target. Now all I had to do was move my left hand to take the safety off, and then press record then get it back to support the rifle. It seemed like this took ages but I suppose when youre concentrating things do seem to take longer than they actually are! And I didnt want to loose or miss this one! (Because you lot wouldnt let me here the last of it) Now I can tell you this is not as simple as looking through your scope ocular lens, its harder than it looks. But with plenty of practice you get there! Here are some clips graphic!! close up After this we had another cuppa, and a quick fag.we had about an hour before we had to have are meeting with the new landowner. So off we both go in different directions, I headed to the small copse for a look around. As I was mooching along I spotted a bunny do a runner! And I froze and watched where it went; it stopped just before the hedge. As I was going to ground! It just edged forward into the long grass, but still visible. Now im in prone position just as I moved my head to the scope it went in DOH!! And now your thinking why didnt I use the scopecam, the batteries were getting low and we still had are new permission too. Go to yet! So had to save them I stayed prone tinkin it might jump back out again, and then I could here like movement behind me. And thought nothing of it, then it got closer! As I turned my head, I could see 2 deers just stood 5 yds away looking straight at me. I tried to get my phone out to take a pic but they were having none of it, and they were off. Lovely to see up that close, and how effortless they were in there stride to get away quick! By now the time was nearing are meeting, so I radioed chaz and met back @ the truck and he came back with a bunny & a pigeon head shot bunny 42yds well done! Chaz. We met up with Robert who signed the new permission for us there and then, and then showed us the boundaries and public foot paths 2 of, which run through the permission. A hour had passed after are walk, and we were back in the truck to have a drive around & a recky and as we had the rifles with us, (It would be rude not too!!) Dont ya tink! Anyway loads of signs activity. And two very lovely looking red kites As we had a look around and few shots we came away from there with a bunny, pigeon & pheasant. Sorry no more scopecam footage as batteries went! We also saw a muntjack run across the field, and another bop and another red kite. And as we were just having a last run round, we encountered some dog walkers. First couple were ok and said hi, but one bloke gave us daggers (I mean a really mean!! look) and as we went passed we could see in the mirrors that he was still there and on his phone. And I thought oh! Know not twice in as many weeks But apart from the prat! Spoiling the end of our day . All in all a good start to 2010 group photo Happy hunting Davy 1 Quote Link to post
