Possibly. Watch you don't pull the collar over his head so he can take off! Once they learn that they do it all the time! You could try a harness to see if he likes that better? What does he do when he stops? Just look around, sit down, sniff? 10 minutes seems like a long time, you'd think he would get bored!

Sounds like he's acting like a very young pup not a 5 month old! Try being a bit firmer with him. Talk to him, encourage him. Use a higher pitched voice than usual so he thinks there's something exciting happening. He has to learn to walk on the lead now before he's bigger! There are a surprising amount of dogs around here who only walk when they want, in the direction they want, and it's easier to deal with now while he's small. It doesn't sound like he's nervous or anything, but if you think he might be then that's a whole other problem. Between about 5 months and 2 years is the adolescent time, pups will try things to see how far they can push you.

pulling him will only make the problem worse, he should associate the lead with enjoyment and get excited every time you show him it, pulling him will only make him dread the lead, try crouching down and offer a titbit/ make a fuss of him when he walks to you. it shouldn't take him long to come round, he doesn't sound that bad, could be worst, he could be a flopper downer.

Try making his walks interesting and fun or a while. When he is walking well, every few minutes play tug with a toy/fuss him with a pat/tell him he is a good boy or give him a wee piece of food. Don't wait until he is refusing to walk to do these things - keep it upbeat and he should start looking forward to his walks .

get the collar high up on his neck this gives you more control, also be firm and assertive but remain calm, treats work when they are doing well, never shut or lash out in frustration as you will end up far back as china
