kenneled springers

Recommended Posts

I have four springer bitches, they werent raised together, living in the same kennel and run, no probs at all

thanks mate,im going to go for the springers they seem easier to keep and train than other bushing dogs ie terrier and hound crosses.

That can be down to the type of springers you get as two dog pups from an hot type trial bred dogs could prove to be a bit of a nightmare as far as training goes you will need plenty of time on your hands.I reared and trained 2 bitches for bushing but mine are out of very steady type springers and not saturated with trial bred dogs.atvb dell

i wont be shooting with them just bushing rabbits etc to lurchers so would i be better not to buy dogs with a lot of ftch in the line and would i be better to get just one until hes trained up.i have two jrts that are ok for ditches would they still be very hard work even if they are learning from them?

Personaly if i was you i would just bring one on the two i brought up a pecking order formed were one would work cover like a demon and the other seemed to take a back seat.I would try and get a pup of some one who is working both perents beating and picking up regular though there is a lot of lads like me now who keep and breed spaniels just for working with lurchers or hawks something i have done for over 25 years and keep a small type springer for this job so dont be put of getting a pup of some one who just uses them for this.atb dell

thanks mate,il buy just the one to be safe i dont want one taking a back seat then the next dog will just concentrate on dogs that are doing the business and theyl be less messing.if i can find someone working the parents with lurchers i think it would suit me better.am i right in thinking a cocker is harder to train,iv heard that they take longer to enter and are less steady, fairly hyper

I dont know about cockers i have never had one .A keeper mate who has had spaniels for 30 odd years got one a couple of years ago and he says its totally different to his springers in temprement and has been a bit more headstrong but a good working dog.I plan in the near future to breed one of my small type springers to a cocker as i have heard good reports about sprockers.atb dell

i prefer a more serious dog in temperment and for my first spaniel a headstrong dog would be more hastle.i believe the springer settles the cocker side in the sprocker cross but iv no experience of this.how well would a springer(pre ban)mark an earth if he was in cover that held charlie, back in the day.i know most if they did come across one mite not bark but would they mark silently if you were walking closeby or would they keep going looking for a different scent

Just going on my springers and ones in the past all would work ground game or feather before they would work a fox scent i believe you would have to encourage a springer from a pup to work fox scent its some thing i have never used them for flushing foxes.atb dell
