dicehorn 38
that said, its the reason I applied for a SGC and then purchased a silenced 410, because one shot to the head, job done, humainly killed in my eyes, what do others think? Fine.....as long as you are prepared when poking the trusty 410 through the cage bars to get an eye full of No 6 shot. Quote Link to post
stubby 175
Fine.....as long as you are prepared when poking the trusty 410 through the cage bars to get an eye full of No 6 shot. it dont happen, although always make sure its dirt under cage rather than concrete, just in case, but using subsonics with a fully hushpowered 410, holding the barrel around 1" from top of head, the shot does not have chance to spread, goes in, leaving a hole around the size of a 10p but does not exit the other side, bulges out the underside of jaw, golf ball looking, Quote Link to post
Urban Fox Control London 8
Why do you think they have to be shot? Get a cage trap and put it just inside the henhouse pophole. and then how would you dispatch that fox once caught in the trap However you think is humane, but don't leave any blood in/on the trap. Hanging about waiting for charlie is time wasting when you know exactly where he'll be but not when he'll be there. thats what Im getting at, what other way is there of humainly dispatching a live caught fox in my eyes, you have two options, shooting, or finding a vet that would put it to sleep therefore advising someone to use a live catch trap, when they have already stated they dont hold a means of dispatching fox, is a bit silly Some police forces advise using an air rifle to dispatch foxes in traps. One shot in the back of the head is enough. A few more in the heart to make sure. Anybody who thinks a fox will 'yelp' in a trap, hasn't been around long. Snares have to be checked once every 24 hrs. You wouldn't set a trap in a henhouse during the day, so setting it after they have gone to roost and checking it in the morning is more than adequate. Like shooting corvids, it's just time consuming, when other means are more cost effective. Of course if people just like lost of big bangs........ WHAT POLICE FORCES RECOMMEND USING AN AIR RIFLE TO DISPATCH FOXES ???????? Quote Link to post
black lab 3
I would never dispatch a fox with a air rifle once caught in a trap i use .22 Rimfire/Mod with subs, hardly any noise, and make sure you have a safe back stop under the trap, soft ground is best, if you dont have something to do the job your local vet will put it to sleep at a cost £££. ps. also open ticket on my FAC as long as the ground you are shooting on is safe for your calibre of rifles Edited January 26, 2010 by black lab Quote Link to post

rjimmer 4
WHAT POLICE FORCES RECOMMEND USING AN AIR RIFLE TO DISPATCH FOXES ???????? Can't find the forum it was posted on, but it was definitely posted some time back. Of course you could always use the old traditional method of killing an animal without damaging the pelt if you wanted to........... Quote Link to post
rjimmer 4
so one in the head, followed by a couple to the heart, is not instant, as the second shots mean there is no confidence in the first shot doing the job The fox I caught in a larsen trap and killed with an air rifle went down like a bag of s**t. 12 ft lbs of airgun pellet in the back of the head and it's more dead than a pig that has been stunned ready to have it's throat cut. I expect you have eaten plenty of 'humanely killed' pork. Quote Link to post
leon the lamper 0
i agrie with u stubby mate get it over and done with in 1 shot not 3 and 4 shots with a air riffle Quote Link to post

stubby 175
makes me laugh, so many "hunters" on this site that cry out that anti's are against us, and are constantly watching our every move on this OPEN forum, and yet still leave totally illegal remarks on how to dispatch mr fox, for all to see/read/copy Quote Link to post
East coast 2
Personaly I wouldn't use a air rifle to dipatch a fox in a cage trap, more so if you are using 3 - 4 shots to kill the fox. To me kill it with 1 shot, job done, none of this 3-4 shots. Quote Link to post
