I have some permission where the owners are having a bad time of it with the foxes, they keep loosing chickens, turkeys and rare breed rabbits to em. The foxes arent holed up on the land and i dont have FAC. Is there anybody in the Halifax, West Yorks area who fancies having a crack at them. Must have FAC and expirience.

Anyone intereste please PM me.

Why do you think they have to be shot?

Get a cage trap and put it just inside the henhouse pophole.

and then how would you dispatch that fox once caught in the trap :hmm:

However you think is humane, but don't leave any blood in/on the trap.

Hanging about waiting for charlie is time wasting when you know exactly where he'll be but not when he'll be there.

Thats ok but then you have the fox trapped for hours until someone is available to dispatch it, it doesnt look good to customers who use the stable to see a fox trapped and yelping away, just better to shoot it. From what the owner told me they appear at a pretty regular times most evenings.

dont know about where you live, but up here in scotland you need a liscense to live trap, easy to obtain, you must provide water and have the trap marked with your name & address and so on

thats what Im getting at, what other way is there of humainly dispatching a live caught fox :hmm:

in my eyes, you have two options, shooting, or finding a vet that would put it to sleep

therefore advising someone to use a live catch trap, when they have already stated they dont hold a means of dispatching fox, is a bit silly

Some police forces advise using an air rifle to dispatch foxes in traps.

One shot in the back of the head is enough. A few more in the heart to make sure.

Anybody who thinks a fox will 'yelp' in a trap, hasn't been around long.

Snares have to be checked once every 24 hrs.

You wouldn't set a trap in a henhouse during the day, so setting it after they have gone to roost and checking it in the morning is more than adequate.

Like shooting corvids, it's just time consuming, when other means are more cost effective.

Of course if people just like lost of big bangs........

see, I cant accept that use of a air rifle can be classed as humaine, even if the police advise it,

surely, humaine means instant

so one in the head, followed by a couple to the heart, is not instant, as the second shots mean there is no confidence in the first shot doing the job

that said, its the reason I applied for a SGC and then purchased a silenced 410, because one shot to the head, job done, humainly killed in my eyes,

what do others think?
