Deepest Digs

Recommended Posts

tunnel.jpg

This was 2 or 3 seasons ago...dug 5 feet or so and had to tunnel in about 9 or 10. Started as soft sand but ended up as hogging...took all day.

The reasons terriers are crap nowadays is the fact all testing quarry cannot be legally hunted...goes back to the 70's I'm afraid.. :(

Any old copie,s of Big Issue lads . :tongue2:

Agree with ye there fella but when something has been dug before and its at 3ft or 4ft the dogs obviously tested less than something at 8ft or 10ft ,the depth aint the factor its the time the dogs to its quarry i think the lads are trying to say

Digging tests the man on the end of the spade not the dog.

Dog should still hold its quarry until dug to,dont matter what dept or how long it takes, let it be 5ft or 5 hours they should still be there at the end.

This was a 7' dig to a woodchuck. It was on a vertical bank and was the little terriers first dig on woodchucks. It took 4 of us about 2 hours to get down to her. Nothing like the tough digs you guys have, but it was one of our deeper ones. Mudcat

I like it mud! nice one.

The deepest/longest was to a JRT that went in a bank and got into a tussel with a fox and some soft stuff fell behind him, hence stuck. Happen at late afternoon and the next morning we were there. Dug 30ft straight back give or take a few feet in soft sand by noon we had 15 diggers there and a bucket system going got the dog out at 600pm in good condition.

I was out for a foxhunt with the NBP in Pa. Hounds ran a nice one in after some great running . I was on foot and had my Den Terrier with me called Gwen. I entered her and she went off the box straight away. The Master put the hounds away and we dug 10ft.straight down in soft stuff again thank god and picked up the dog roughed up and no fox  I wasnt very happy I can tell you :(

I don't know exactly how deep this was ( befor B&F )it went of the box and MORE THAN 28 FEET!

Everything by hand and took us ( 3 people!) 2 days

The deeper we got , the harder it became!

It was a dig I will never forget!!

At the end of the day, what looks shallow could go very deep, even the earth which are dug for years can hold a deeper spot unknown of.

Anyone that isnt prepared to dig a good depth really should find another pursuit for follow
