Had barber out the other day , not very good with other dogs, he was on his lead, bloke is walking towards me with his two male labs off theres, i asked him a few times politly if he could put his on and explained why, the one dog is getting abit close with his ackels up, he then told me to walk round him and still didnt put them but after calling his dog it went back over to him amd off they went , but what if his dog had of got to close and barber got hold?? would i have been in the wrong for having a dog that can get a bit aggressive with other dogs but was on his lead and under controll or would it of been his own fault for not putting them back on there leads when i explained what barber was like ? ????

not sure but ..should your dog have attacked his .. suppose it could be said ,,you were not in control of your dog !!..

Even if your dog had defended itself against it, his dog would be at fault as with yours being on a lead it is classed as under control. But if you let yours off and it attacked his yours would be at fault, the law has tried to get me a few times like that but my dogs were on a lead so under control

Tallyho in your support mate he was breaking the law by not having his dogs on the lead

spot on   :clapper: :clapper:

from personal experience, the police would take no action against you in those circumstances, a statement is all they'd be after  and say frightened, not aggressive.

briefly, i had a rotty on lead and in control, woman had terrier off lead and very uncontrolled :censored: i asked her to put it on a lead but flossy was having none of it, flossy ran at the rotty, growling  rotty picked it up and threw it, minimal damage, a slight tear on the shoulder. i had police question me and in their words, 'it was dog to dog agression and they weren't going to get involved' :hmm:

thats the experience i had anyways, i hope that helps a little

This has happened to me on a couple of occasions over the years, the law states all dogs should be under control at all times whilst in a public place, this pretty much translates as "on the lead". i was out a few years back with a wee little staff i owned at the time who was abit fiesty to say the least, i saw a spaniel running towards me, it's owner was a mile away, anyway, spaniel ran right into the staff and took a severe mauling, fella runs over and starts ranting and raving, un happy with me telling him he should of had his dog on the lead, he decided to involve the law who told him...exactly the same. he was pig sick the f*****g tit.

Why should he put a muzzle on his dog so it cant defend it self if some prick wont put his dogs under control and they attack it.his dog was on a lead and was there fore causing no problem had the outher dick head had his dogs on a lead there would of been no chance of an incedent. I took my staff out on his lead and he doesnt like strange dogs as he was attacked as a pup this women came over with a lab off the lead I told her my dog doesnt like outher dogs and could she please put her dog on the lead she said mine is fine with outher dogs so I replied and said mine isnt so to this she replies well you should not walk it then the lab came over with its heckles up and groweled I walked off and she turned around and started to follow us down the canal then my dog nailed her lab I got him off then told her to piss off the police turned up as she rang them on her mobile the police said she was in the wrong as my dog was under control and she had instigated it by not having her dog on the lead and then following us to carry the argument on she was not at all pleased nd tryed to tell the police that my staff was an american pit stupid bitch.

You've done nothing Wrong Mate,as you said your Dog was on it's Lead and under Control.Plus you gave the Other person a Warning that your Dog was Touchy with Other Dogs. They was in the Wrong by Having their Dogs off the Lead in a Public Place.

Regarding the muzzle suggestion, as previously said if you have the dog on the lead you won't be liable if anything happens, but I 'spose it's all a matter of opinion; if something was to kick off, do you think you would be capable of restraining your dog/pulling your dog off another dog? If not then you probably ought to think about getting the dog a muzzle..

agree with above - your dog was on lead hence under control if they are dumb enough to ignore your warning about your "scared" dog its their problem not yours.

I have had a very similar experience to you and your rottie, but ours was off lead as was the other dog - but even then as the small thing (shit sue sp?) started it by biting the rottie when it ran over to her, who was a tad peaved gave it a shake and chased it away! Even then when he rang police wanting them to come shoot her then and there, they told him that wasnt how it worked and he admited he was at fault not us in the end.

With regards to a muzzle it may be worth having one to hand if you go through any narrow gaps like alleys etc when your walking incase you meet another dog (just incase he manages to bite a person in a scuffle), other than that i would say leave a muzzle so your dog can at least defend itself if needed.

had simmilar here my male was on a lead & a small dog off its lead came to close & he retreived it shall we say , didnt harm the dog but its owners ego was a little battered

Just easier to muzzle imo save all the shouting after , to be honest i find if the greys here are muzzled folks usually call there dogs of if there loose as they see the muzzle , works for me
