Bad day

Recommended Posts

Yesterday was rediculous.

Went for a quick mooch in the morning only to discover that there's mixy at my only local permission. My 11 month old bitch got a bad nick off a fence chasing a fit rabbit and I managed to drop and lose my lead. Bad start. Then found out an old colleage who is a right pain in the arse is going to be working with me. Got home accidentally broke a coat stand, smashed a wine glass and argued with the mrs and so went out for a shine in a right huff.

I should have known better. I ran the bitch on the quarry in an unplanted field with a lean-to at the far side. The rabbit ran up the hedge, she managed to flush it out and straight to the lean-to. I could see there was some rubble in it, but it was too late the bitch ran straight into a zinc sheet sticking out of the ground and gashed her leg. Me and the mrs then had another row over the dog (she's had 6 staples). Just to top it off the lights blew in the house and I fell down the stairs hurting me knee.

Me and the bitch are both laid up for a while. Beyond belief.

The point of this post: How could I have avoided the accident? Should I have turned the lamp off? I thought about it, but the bitch is so keen it doesn't seem to stop the chase. I suppose some would say I shouldn't have run her. Also, I am told not to take her out properly for 10 days. I would usually wait a week for what is not a really bad injury. Any advice appreciated.

All in the game - true. I've stiched and stapled dogs myslef in the past and so am going to buy a new stapler. Still think I could have avoided it if I'd really been on the ball though.
