Rare bird in Mid Wales

Recommended Posts

There is a Black Kite currently feeding at Gigrin Kite feeding station on the outskirts of Rhayader. I managed to get a few photos of this stunning bird. It is a juvenile so does not have the pronounced forked tail yet.

Thanks for the relies folks

Black Kites are often seen in spain and throughout asia. They normally winter to the south of the sahara apparently. :icon_eek: Guess this one got lost :icon_eek: When I was there on sunday, there must have been between 300 and 400 kites feeding. It is an amazing spectacle, they are fed about 20ft in front of the hides that you sit in. Well wrth a visit and an even bigger bonus if the black kite is still hanging around.

Great pics.

Didn't know about Gilgrin, but just googled it and I was very close to it last week when picking up a new pup. Nevermind, got a caravan just a few miles away and will visit later in the year.

Gilgrin have a site with info at http://www.gigrin.co.uk. Admission to the farm:

Adults £4.00, O.A.P £3.00, Children £1.50 (4yrs and under Free)

and bonus, dogs are allowed.
