runforyourlife 361
The smooth coat in some cases does not mean they are thin skined.Me and my mate have litter brother and sister out of a grey/beddy back to biglandboy they are 12 months old his smooth haired dog will sit out in bad weather were has my brocken coated bitch is very nesh in rain .After seeing pups out of a previouse litter and this one of mine i would always now go for a smooth coated one based on their running ability.atb dell Based on the running ability, so your saying the rough coat hinders there running performance and changes their speed.. You just havent seen the right dogs run.. ATB Russ Quote Link to post

ATB Russ Their coat does not hinder their running ability in the said litters its their conformation as the rough coated one i have has thrown more to the beddy were has the smooth ones have more pace.As for seeing the right ones run its a cross i have been around for over 30 odd years admitedly though crossed with other hybreds wich imho produces better allround lurchers than just a mix of grey/beddy and whippet.atb dell Quote Link to post

I own the litter brother P3161 is talking about,he means in this litter the ones that have thrown smooth have more running ability, the dog is slightly taller but its not just that, the conformation is totally different. Not that the dog is really a smooth, its got a dense smooth coat, totally impervious to the weather. My lads Beddy x whipp/grey is rough coated, but as with a lot of these x's the coat is mostly on top with little undercoat. The beddy x grey, beddy whip/grey can be very good dogs[wouldnt have them otherwise would we?] but as p3161 says crossing with other hybrids can produce better allround dogs, his dogs bred this way were far superior to anything with only beddy as base blood, the problem is when you start crossing its more hit and miss, just using Beddy the end result is more predictable.
