all.rounder 3
some dogs with 2 much sight hound in them seam 2 take longer 2 catch on with the lamp they see them once they start 2 move.they look over the top of the rabbits you need 2 walk them right up 2 them some times you need 2 give them a nudge with your boot.but it will take time but it will click on Quote Link to post

martin 332
You've got to remember that the dog is a lot lower down than you,so,it won't be able to actually see all that you can. What they need to learn is that there will be 'something'in the lamp even though they can't see it,and, once they have learnt that(which shouldn't take too long)you will be well on the way...........Martin Quote Link to post

Guest Mass_G3nocide
The dog will learn mate after time just keep walking up to the rabbits and get your dog looking at them. Quote Link to post
nasher1 258
It takes time for dogs to learn that the light on means theres something for them to chase or pick up, and as said before dont forget the dogs eyeline is a lot lower than yours, so pick your ground carefully when starting a dog on the lamp get some slips where the dog can definatley see the rabbit and the faster it will kick in, so stubble and very lumpy ground is a no-no Quote Link to post
wardy.s.s. 3
Try running it with an experienced dog, this way it'll learn to run down the lamp looking for something then hopefully get a corse at the end of it. atb good look Quote Link to post
ol26 2
I posted something similar about 5 months ago - its just clicked with my dog - she believes the beam now! looks then runs straight down it - now shes just having a bit of a problem with the take, see my post this afternoon! persevere mate - you will get there, seems like it can be a slow road to a good dog - mines a Saluki X too! wild rover 548
i got a 12month old saluki x she is not seeing the rabbits in the beam when i put the lamp on how do i get her to start seeing them she can only see them when im about 10 foot away from them will it just come with experience All the comments on taking time and some dogs take longer than others are comments that need not be left to time and chance, read the article i posted earlier, "starting a lamping pup" training like this ensures your lurcher is ready for the first nights lamping and does all reasonably well. All the disbelievers or those who choose to select trial and error usually cant train a lurcher, persevere and it pays off, Good luck all the best. WR Quote Link to post
cumbrian-whippet 1
It will get there soon, some dogs only seem to need a few runs to get the idea some take a bit more time. Just persevere and it will get the idea Quote Link to post
