THL meet my Black Labrador Pup

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the replies.

Actually this morning was quite funny. He started crying at 5am but he doesn't whine unless he needs to get out for the toilet so I went down and took him out. Stood outside in boxer shorts and teeshirt after 10 minutes it looked like he wasn't going to go so I let him back in where he promptly crapped on the floor.

He's been pretty good today and we're starting to learn to trust our instincts and when we 'think' the signs are there we'll just take him out and wait.

Not sure whether I should be changing his feeding times so he doesn't want the toilet in the night time. At the moment he is getting fed a small cup in the morning and one at 6-7pm but I'm going to feed him at 9:30pm and then 7:30am.

First Jabs tomorrow.

Can anyone confirm the 5 minutes per month exercise rule? Is that only once per day? This dog seems to want a hell of alot more exercise than that. He's having a run about in the garden and play with the balls for 15 mins at a time but twice or even three times per day.

This is the general rule I worked off when I got my ESS, and they are live wires when their pups.

I was told 5 mins per day per month of age. But if you feel that your dog needs that little more exercise then go for it.

Dont forget a lot of playing will tire the little nipper out, but try and make these enjoyable for the pup.

Hope this helps

OK will try to reorganise his exercise, I think he just gets really skitish and goes mental. Trying to make a ballence of play with a ball etc and the let him have a sniff round the garden. Realised if we don't distract him for the first 10-15 minutes he's more likely to go to the loo. So I'm letting him just wander round the garden untill he's been to the toilet then after that I'll play with a ball with im for a few minutes say 5-8 then get him on the lead for a couple laps of the garden then inside. We can do that twice a day and that should be giving hime 15 minutes of real exercise plus some fun training that isn't rushing about.

Took him to the vets today and he was good in the car, then took him to my parents where he was also good. We're trying to stop getting him over excited and leaving him be when he settles down, most people (including myself) make a beeline for him and then play with him so much that he gets really exited.

He's not pooed in the house since yesterday morning so we're doing ok.

Spoke to the vet about his eatting habits and she recomends 3 times a day so hendo was right. I'll feed him at 7, 1pm and the 9-10pm so we dont get woak up at 5am.

Had a load of fun this week but I am shattered.
