New to reloading

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, just come back from Reloading Solutions shop & I must say it is a very good shop with a very patient owner whose very helpful,& dosent try to sell you stuff you dont need.

Now I was just wondering how each of you reload from start to finish with new cases & how many do you reload when working up a load,do you full length size,do you chamber the cases? etc etc.

Thanks in advance Andy

Best advice is to allow plenty of time for each stage of reloading, do NOT Rush or cut corners.

IF in any doubt that you have not done anything correctly STOP. And do that stage again.

Seams like a ball ache but it becomes automatic.

And don't reload if you are tired, unwell or distracted. :)

I would suggest you get yourself onto U Tube and put in Ammosmith and have a look at the various vids he has put up. He is a knowledgeable guy. Unlike the guy Swampy in #2 post who admits he is very Heath Robinson which is born out by some of his comments and awful grouping results, Ammosmith produces consistent results with his reloading techniques but you should be aware reloading is not all about cutting corners.

Once you have gained some knowledge from these vids, I would seriously suggest you find someone in your area that is an experienced reloader and basically have a look over his shoulder. If you can give your rough location, perhaps there is someone on here within your area

I select twenty five cases based on head stamp, give the cases a good once over and reject any with deformities or odd weights.

1) Full length size

2) Measure and trim case length.

3) uniform flash hole (new cases or once fired cases)& clean primer pocket

4) Tumble

5) Clean in ultra sonic cleaner

6) Dry cases

7) Inspect cases and reject any odd ones

8 Prime cases

9) charge cases

10) Seat bullet

11) Weigh each round and group in wallet according to weight

Thinks that about all I do. Might take me as long as two days from start to finish or as little as two hours if I am chucking the rounds together, no real rush as I'm not after quantity.

a good dvd is AGI handloading for the long range shooter.easy to follow but its 1 hell of an imfomercial, you dont need to go to lengths shown for hunting rounds but its good to see it done properly.also buy 2 or 3 manuals and stick to them until your confidence grows. trg
